I wouldn't think that Russia would be able to get that many gold medals or that many medals period.

I'd wager it highly highly likly that this year China overtake the US in gold medal count, but nevertheless loose in overall medals.

I dont think the US will get as many gold medals as it use to get. The anti doping cases and similar issues have seriously hit the areas where the US usualy got lots of medals. Many of the US track stars for example have been hit with doping charges and bans, which usualy excludes them from the Olympics. And traditional sports the US usualy did well in are now dominated by other countries.. basketball comes to mind. There is of course swimming, but not sure how well the US has been doing internationally there as I dont follow it that much.

On top of that China been really preparing for these olympics in both legal and illegal ways, so I suspect they will on top when it comes to medals.

If we dont have boycotts then I suspect that the medals will be pretty evenly divided up among the big nations this time around.
