This is so unlike me, but on a road trip earlier this year (desperate to stay awake) I heard McGregor's interview with Nate Diaz, before he lost to Diaz. The guy has that Irish charisma. Gotta love him.

Awesome he accomplished his goal.
McGregor crouched inside the cage waiting for the bell to ring and attack Alvarez. McGregor was the clear aggressor from the start and dropped Alvarez three times in the first round. Alvarez, out of Philadelphia, bounced up the first two times and took a severe beating on the third. McGregor forced Alvarez to fight with his back to the cage and dominated the rest of the round.

McGregor placed his hands behind his back in the second, taunting and toying Alvarez to hit him. McGregor, UFC's biggest box office star, unloaded a left and ended the fight.

He demanded both belts and slapped them over his shoulder before he sat on top of the cage.

"I've spent a lot of time slaying everybody in the country," McGregor said. "I'd like to take the chance to apologize to absolutely nobody."

And after the 1st Diaz fight, he handled his loss like a gentleman, no trash talking or making excuses. That won him a lot of fans who were ready to throw things at him previously.

The Guinness is flowing in Dublin right now I bet! It'll still be flowing next Saturday when there's no McGregor fight lol.

McGregor absolutely kicked Alvarez's ass. We had the fight at the restaurant tonight, and it was PACKED. And Conor did not disappoint. What an ass-kicking.

The fight before the main event (Woodley-Thompson) was a far superior fight, a very disputable draw.

On a side note, I do think UFC is somewhat diluting its brand by putting on so many PPV cards. Most don't draw flies.

I was a fan of UFC pre-TUF era. There weren't many PPV and each one was a big deal. I love that MMA is more popular than ever and that the skill of the fighters keeps getting better, but there is so much of it happening, I can't keep up except the big draws like McGregor, Rousey, and whenever Lesnar pokes his roid head into the picture.

Yeah, I respected how he handled the loss. It cemented my newly found good will for him.

LOL! Quite probably! It is something to celebrate. :)

Gotta love the Irish. They even turn funerals into parties.

Yeppers, I sure do. Full of piss, vinegar and mischief. I'd much rather have a party than gloom it out and soak in tears.

The "historic" part of it doesn't really impress me a ton. It's an artificially created thing due to Dana previously being very negative to the idea of a champion going up/down a division while holding the belt. And it creates a conundrum for the UFC now, because if McGregor doesn't drop down to defend his flyweight title in his next fight it's really time for him to just abdicate the belt.

He destroyed Alvarez, and it was a case of bad match ups. Alvarez is a bit of a wild puncher who likes to go headstrong at his opponent and can be a little wild with his striking. Connor is a monster with accuracy and counter punching and eats those types of fighters for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And that's exactly what happened.

What's going to be interesting is when he ends up getting Khabib, which hopefully will be two fights down the line after he takes on either Max Holloway or Jose Aldo in his next fight. I think Khabib has the skill set to possibly work Connor if he's smart and tries to get away from the stand up game as quick as possible.
