"As soon as we became aware of the tweets posted by Steve yesterday we began to examine all of our options in regard to his standing on the team," general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a statement Friday. "Today we have informed him that he is suspended for the remainder of the season without pay."

Clevenger's tweets referenced the recent unrest in Charlotte, North Carolina after police shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott on Tuesday. One tweet said in part that "Everyone involved should be locked behind bars like animals!"

Seattle Mariners suspend Steve Clevenger for inappropriate tweets

As much as I find his comments repugnant...seems a bit harsh.

Seems a bit much to me too. Maybe suspend him 3 games or so. The rest of the year(10 or so games left?) seems excessive.

But I got to wonder how long it is going to take people to figure out how Twitter works? lol

So many smart people just Tweet the dumbest things, like they don't realize other people can see their Tweets. Then they take down the Tweets, and apologize. This kind of thing happens so many times now, daily!! I swear to God they don't know how Twitter works.

Maybe they just saw their opportunity not to pay an injured, terrible backup catcher that they traded the MLB leader in home runs for.

Thanks for reminding me.

Maybe there's other tweets, but from the two I saw - they were not bad at all. Little bit harsh for my taste, but some of it is not far off base. Condemning BLM, and condemning a President is freedom of speech, and not anything that is abnormal either.

Just like Kaepernick got his, this guy deserves his freedom. That's a double standard, and it's clear as day this isn't an isolated incident. My views lean strongly left, but that doesn't mean I can sit there and let one of the most important freedoms be restricted and that's what these cases are. When somebody can't function in society, and not having a job is just that, it creates problems. The biggest of all being just how much an influence these big organizations and corporations have over people that they can sit their and control their political and social views like that, and let's face it - with most of these entities being liberal instead of neutral, that's what happens.

It's ridiculous and has to stop now. Your political and social views outside of the workplace should have no bearing on your ability to be employed, just like sexual orientation, sex, race, etc.

Employee reflects badly on his employer's business? Ya gotta be careful what you broadcast.

I agree. In my view, the wrong player(s) got suspended. It's one thing to do something on your own time. Entirely another to demonstrate at your workplace. The kneeling football players should have been suspended.

Many people in this country hold Clevenger's view.

All of a sudden the Seattle Mariners give a **** about how their fans feel?

They have historically had the worst PR on the planet.
