Tebow!!!!

All that said I did see film cuts of his baseball tryout. You could show a movie on his back. He's f'ing HUGE. RIPPED! Probably too big for baseball, IMO.

He should have agreed to try out for TE in the NFL. He's not a QB, but with his size and strength he could have maybe played another position.

then he would have become a role player
not the go-to guy with the spotlight constantly on him
and thus he avoided playing the position for which he was best suited

Many QBs have chosen to fail at QB rather than succeed at another position

Yeah he's apparently up to 250+ I ran in to him a couple of months ago he's built like Jose Canseco except he's clean

I had always thought that if he made the switch to TE, he would have been awesome in the NFL. But I hope baseball works out for him. He's a good guy, and as you say, great attitude.

I dont know about that, hes not anywhere near the physicality of guys like Gronk, Gates, Gonzales or Graham and hes slower than all of them and I havent seen anything to show he would be a better route runner or have better catching skills.

While there is no reason to suspect hes on PEDs it foolish in this day and age to proclaim him clean

He was a running QB, he can run the routes. Teach him to block, and he had the size and speed to compete at TE.

After being blackballed from the NFL due to his faith and outsized personality [/url]

Yes because teams are desperately looking for quarterbacks with a 47% completion percentage. :lamo

If some BB team does sign Teabow he is going to be out of the spotlight for a long, long time. A ball? Winter Ball? AA Ball? Lots and lot of bus trips and crowds of 200 people in the stands in minor league baseball. There won't be a spotlight in baseball for him for a long, long time. IMO he should have agreed to TE, or some other NFL position.

Tebow could certainly be a passable tight end but I dont think there is any reason to believe he could be "awesome" in the NFL

To be fair to him he had a poor receiving squad. In college his career QB rating was 177. In his last game against a stingy Cincinnati bearcat defense he went 31 for 35 for 500+ yards.

If he could block as a TE, I think he would be awesome. He can run and catch, he was great at gaining more yards. If he could block, I think that combo would have made him a great TE.

But it's all moot. He didn't want to go to any other position, he wasn't NFL QB material, and now he's looking to play baseball.

Yup, that's why College and NFL are two completely different stages.

Tebow is smaller, slower and weaker than all the other elite TE's in the game. I just dont see what advantage you think he would have over them without ever having seen him play as a TE.

from what i read today, the scouts werent all that impressed

even with the couple of dingers he hit, they didnt like his swing

his arm is average, and he was clumsy in the outfield

so dont expect a major league contract out of this

I heard the opposite here - seems at least 5 teams met with Tebow and his reps after the workout and expressed some interest. Thoughts are he'll receive a pro contract offer in the next week or so and look to play A or AA ball next spring and go from there. If that's the chance he wants, and he gets it, good on him.

There might be something to the thought that some of the hate from fans was the result of his faith, but I don't think it's at all credible that teams or players hated him because of his faith. In fact, it seems obvious to me that football players are some of the most outwardly religious athletes of any sport. They frequently congregate in groups after a game, both teams players together, and pray and give thanks for making it through the game unhurt. Likewise, when a player is injured on the field, players from both teams gather around him and pray for his health and recovery.

this is a great cite discussing TE stats for the better players in today's game
Jordan Reed and the Best Receiving Tight Ends of 2015 - Hogs Haven

i follow the panther's Greg Olsen; my favorite player
while he is an athletic TE, i believe his advantage is being game smart
not sure tebow would stack up in that category
but in size, speed, strength and general athleticism, he appears to be a legitimate candidate for a TE position

MLB Scouts on Tim Tebow tryout: 'complete waste of time', 'batting practice was impressive' - UPI.com

One American League scout told USA Today, "It was a complete waste of time. It was like watching an actor trying to portray a baseball player.

"He tried. He tried. That's the best I can say. He is crazy strong, and could run well in one direction, but that's it. He only had one good throw of all his throws."

An unnamed veteran scout told ESPN.com, "The batting practice was impressive, and if he had carried it over into the simulated game, I think a lot of teams would have come away from this very interested. But it just didn't translate. He was out front a lot and he didn't recognize some pitches. He didn't take the same approach. It seemed like he was more interested in making contact, and his barrel was dragging."

most of the reviews werent very good....

will he get a chance @ A ball? maybe....ticket draw, and small salary....not much to lose

Is he though? There are some big dudes playing the TE position for sure. Rob Gronkowski and Jason Witten are both something like 6’6” and over 260 lbs. But what is Tebow at? He’s something like 6’3” at 245 lbs. What do some of the best TEs stack up as?

Antonio Gates: 6’4” 255lbs
Ozzie Newsome: 6’2” 230lbs
Mike Ditka: 6’3” @ 230lbs
Tony Gonzalez: 6’5” 250lbs
Dave Casper: 6’4” 240lbs
John Mackey: 6’2” 225lbs

Tebows size and mass are right in the range of some of the great TE’s, so he wasn’t too small. How fast were any of these guys? I actually don’t know. Weaker? I don’t know, Tebow is built and works our ferociously. I think that given his size and skill sets, he could have made the transition and performed remarkably.

We’ll never know, he didn’t want to do that. But I don’t think he wasn’t physically fit for the position just because there are a few big guys out there.

Congrats you get the inaugural award for silliest post in a sports forum. I am certain you will win this many times.

Setting aside Gronk lets take a look at the two best recent TE's in the league (both Gators)

Jordan Reed and Aaron Hernandez

Tebow is bigger stronger (he is a total gym rat) and as fast as both.

I have schooled you AGAIN!!!!

Many of the scouts said the workout was a waste of time. He was still fast, his 60 yd dash time was pretty damn good. BUT he looked awkward in the outfield and did quite poorly with live pitching.

But a few thought he showed something that might be worth sending him to the minors.
