Yuliya and Vitaly Stepanov pose for a picture before an interview at an undisclosed location on July 28, 2016

The couple was tense when we met in a nondescript hotel room somewhere in the United States. We were asked not to reveal the exact location of the rare interview and only learned it ourselves at the last minute. Yuliya Stepanova, an 800-meter runner, and husband Vitaly, a former doping officer in Russia, have been living in hiding, first in Germany and now in America, for the past two years. But a few days ago Stepanova's accounts were hacked and the couple's location was revealed. Hackers had just tracked them down. "If something happens to us," Stepanova said, "it is not an accident. It is not accidental."

continued at the link....

No doubt Russian hackers tracked them down at the behest of the Putin regime.

New BMW Goes On Sale In Russia, One Day After Being Awarded To Gold Medalists

Not only does the Russian state operate a vast athletic doping program, it also rewards Olympic gold medal winners with a 2016 BMW X6 II luxury crossover. In addition to the cars, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said medalists would be receiving cash awards: $62,000 for gold, $39,000 for silver, and $26,000 for bronze. Similarly, silver and bronze medalists received less luxurious but still pricey BMW models: the X4 and the X3.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev shows off a new BMW to synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko, who
won gold at the Rio Olympics on August 16. It's not known if Ishchenko was the swimmer selling her new car however.

Oh thought this was about Snowden :)

Yes, but he is there because the Americans are after him for doing exactly the same as the Russian swimmers... irony or hypocrisy .... or both.
Must you hijack everything to get in your digs at America?

Not hijacking anything, just pointing out that the treatment of whistleblowers by Putin is hardly unique.

Maybe you forgot to read the OP before you commented. Snowden is mentioned nowhere in the article nor by me.

So you are telling me, that the targeting of a whistleblower by Putin is not the same as the targeting of a whistleblower by Obama?

Nope, because contrary to what Hollywood might think, Edward Snowden wouldn't turn up dead if the US caught him. He'd rot in jail; but he wouldn't be executed.

Whereas in Russia people having "accidents" is fairly commonplace.

I'm telling you that you are diverting to deflect bad press away from Putin/Russia.
