Just great!!!

The only two things I wanted for the coming season were for Crystal Palace and Bournemouth to avoid the drop down and where are they now?

19'th and 20'th, respectively.

You jinxed it.

I am trying to get into watching Premier League. They show live games here on Saturdays. Yesterday they had 3 games and I watched them all (it was HOT outside and I chilled on the couch in my living room [emoji6] ) That was the start of the season. How many games do they play (I think it's something like 38?), and what is the best online resource to follow standings? ESPN sucks, no surprise there.

38 games in the league. Add X number of games two cup competitions in the UK, and add X number of games for the teams in European competitions. A team like Manchester City can easily do 50 games a season.

As for online resources... stats or information?

Information wise there are tons of pages.. Goal.com (English version), BBC News sports page, Sky Sports, and so on and so on.

Stats wise, well that is a tad more tricky. https://www.premierleague.com/ is the official webpage with official stats. It is not as comprehensive stats wise as I would like it, but it is pretty much the same on all the stats pages. One stat I lack is how far each player has run during the game.

Hmm if Klopp can plug the defensive issues, then Liverpool look like a contender. Arsenal look in shambles.

Still not as bad as their loss to Villa in 13/14. Last year's opening day loss to West Ham was also hilarious.

Just voted for ManU. I think it's between them and City this season.

Zlatan the Unstoppable.

Nice little away win for Everton today, something we struggled to do a lot last year. Big win's for City and United with Liverpool losing 2-0 to Burnley...but remember this is their year:mrgreen:

I may agree with you according to my gut feeling, but it's way, way to early to predict a 2-horse race.

For info, if you think it will be between City and United, what makes you lean towards the dark side?

I see Clattenburg was at it again... he must be blind.... 2 clear penalties and he said no.. moron.

Well at first I said it would be between Chelsea, City and ManU and it does head that way so far, but I think you'll agree both City and United look better than Chelsea so far.
As to why United over City that's due to the players who joined United. Not that the players who joined City are bad, I just think Zlatan is going to make a bigger difference. So will Pogba probably.

Maybe, but as I said, too early to be sure.

I agree that Zlatan and Pogba might make the more immediate impact, however United are starting from a much inferior position. They were fairly woeful last season, whereas City won a cup and made the CL semifinal.

I'm very encouraged by Stones and Nolito's start to heir City careers and even more optimistic about Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus.

In fairness Gabriel Jesus impressed me during the Olympics, he oozes class.

Chealski has no European football... and both City´s and Man Us teams are not deep enough. I am thinking more and more that it is Chealskis year.

To be fair, he has to get use to that in the EPL..

He'll get used to the more physical side of EPL football, but I don't see treatment as consistently aggressive as I saw him suffering on Saturday very frequently. No one's hoping for the hair-trigger card wielding we see in certain other leagues, but it's bad to see a 19-year-old hobbling off the pitch in a major final because he's been taken out by repeated, perhaps targeted bad tackles.

We shall see..... if he continues the play he did at the Olympics, then he will be one of the best dribblers in the EPL and that will mean lots of fouls against.

Roma self imploded tonight, Celtic lucky as well.

Celtic lucky as ****. But thank God HBS didn't make it to the group stage, the 25m Euros prize would have made them monsters in the local league here.

Glad to see the Celtic fans behaved themselves, good of got ugly if they started waving more flags.

Well security would probably not let them get those flags into the stadium if they tried regardless. It didn't get much attention here on the local media though as everyone is far too used to this crap by now.

I can imagine it gets old. Bunch of football fans trying to interfere in a complex political situation.

As someone who was quite skeptical of signing Batshuayi, thus far he has proved to be quite a player. I'm still not sure why Conte is playing Matic instead of Cesc, we signed Kante to play deep and assist the back line. Bench Matic, play Cesc and let him deliver to Bats / Diego. Side note, Hull somehow winning both games (albeit one of them against Swansea) -- good litmus test this weekend against United.

Interesting article.. I have been speaking of this problem before but it was dismissed by most... but the problem is very real this year... hell if it had not been for a disaster year for the Italian clubs last year, then it could already have happened this year.

Basically, if the Italian clubs do better than the English clubs this season in Europe, then there wont be any 4th place for the CL next season for the EPL.

Now is it realistic? Well one bright spot is that Roma self destructed yesterday, but will be in the Europa League... which still means that both England and Italy have all their teams in the competitions. So it comes down to who goes furthest and it is key that at least one of Leicester or Tottenham get out of the CL group stage to compensate for a poor run (traditionally) in the Europa league for English clubs. Now if both Leicester and Tottenham.. or hell Arsenal or Man City.. any of them, fail to get out of the group stage, then oh boy.. pray for a poor Italian year also.

Will be interesting to see if the Italians can take the 3rd place (and 4 teams) from the English.

Well yes, if one country's teams consistently underperform, they'll lose CL spots. I'm not sure the English teams are under that much threat as of now. In the past decade Italian teams have reached the QF stage of the CL 8 times, English teams 22 times. Both countries have lifted the trophy twice, German teams just once. I think the status quo will pertain until one or other nation's teams radically under- or over-perform.
