ESPN fires Mike Ditka for calling Obama worst president

ESPN has sanctioned its personalities for political speech on both sides of the aisle (see Curt Schilling on the right and Keith Law on the left). But of course, pretend it's some "Dear Leader" bull**** rather than an ESPN employee violating corporate policy.

Always the victims, aren't we Joe?

They fired Limbaugh for some made up racist crap.

Get politics out of sports!

"Made up racist crap" = basically claiming Donovan McNabb gets a pass from "the media" as some sort of affirmative action, or something.

Rush never should have been hired in the first place.

It is pretty obvious by watching ESPN, that they are a pretty progressive network. It should come as no surprise when they do not hand out punishments for speech in a just manner.

never heard of keith law(although google shows he's still employed by espn, so i don't even get your point) and any other examples are ALL of people on the right being fired for comments, NEVER anyone on the left. so yes Kob, we are always the victims. that was my point. disprove it.

Law was suspended for responding to Schilling's comments on evolution. Google should have told you that too.

ESPN policy is for its on-air talent to keep their politics to themselves. Ditka violated that policy (on more than one occasion).

How does one come to the determination that a sports network is progressive? :popcorn2:

Rush was dead on with that though.

McNabb was wildly overrated and given a pass.

Either you are being intentionally obtuse, or you do not watch very much ESPN. Either way, I come to that determination by actually watching the network and hearing their commentary on various events.

ESPN- Generally 99 % sports focused?

i'll comment on this topic once ESPN lets me remove them from my comcast package. i don't want one cent of my money going to a sportsball network.

You obviously do not watch much ESPN either. Sportscenter is about the only program that is more objective sports than not.

Asked as I am not a big sports fan.

Wildly overrated? He was in the middle of a 5 straight pro bowls and 4 straight NFL championship games when Limbaugh said that.

It's like 60% sports, 35% TMZ, 5% remarks that get one of thier employees suspended
They are commentators- companies have them sign reams of documents- ethics is just one of them - areas to avoid I would gander are also included.

ESPN owns the political site 538 which advertises political articles on the ESPN homepage, previously owned Grantland which often delved into politics and has a TMQ blog that mixes politics with sports. Not to mention that ESPN is often involved in political issues even though politics isn't specific lyrics mentioned

NFC championship games, but your point stands. The idea that McNabb, one of the winningest QBs of his era, was "wildly overrated" (and thus, Rush Was Right!) is patently absurd.

Mike Ditka replaced on ESPN Sunday NFL Countdown after Obama slam | Daily Mail Online

I was shocked it took this long for them to do it. You don't make negative remarks against The Leader. Everyone knows that. Now, sadly, Mr. Ditka must be taught a lesson.

Welcome to the new America.

Yeah, what's the matter with ESPN? Why would they have a problem with a mental giant like Ditka pissing off the 70 million or so Americans who voted for the President? It's not like they depend on viewers having a positive view of them for their survival.:lamo

It's a trait of the Far Right. They love being victims.
