Sir Sebastien Coe-president of the IAAF, appeared on our local news noting that Russia has been asked to respond to allegations by the Anti Doping body of international athletics that the Russian Track and Field Athletes have been involved in a systemic doping scheme that may prevent the Country's team from competing in the Rio games.

Here is one of several articles discussing that

It would be a surprise, had the Russians changed that after the demise of the Soviet.

1976 was the first olympics I really followed closely and I remember Frank Shorter (72 marathon winner-"silver" in 76) and America's top lady swimmer Shirley Babashoff both complain that they lost to dopers. some wrote their runner up finishes to "sour grapes" but one of my best friends-a guy who had the single greatest winning margin in any of the 76 events, said the same thing, so did one of my coaches a few years later when I was at the USOTC as a shooter. well anyway-fast forward to the demise of the Iron Curtain and the unification of Germany. East German trainers and doctors were on trial for doping and harming athletes, and former Champion Swimmer Kornelia Ender was testifying to how her breasts shrank, her voice deepened and her clitoris enlarged as a result of the "vitamins" her trainers were giving her in shots, pills, enemas etc. Unlike some of her counterparts, she was able to have a child. other women suffered ovarian cancer and became sterile due to the massive injections of steroids HGH etc.

The Russians need to be punished but let's not kid ourselves that this starts and ends with Russia. Doping is rife throughout the athletic world and has been for decades.

true-an Irish swimmer whose husband was both a pharmacist and a banned track athlete, won a bunch of medals I believe in the 96 games only to be banned the next year when she refused to submit to (a more advanced) drug test. and of course we have those American cyclists including "Lie strong" Lance and "floyd the faker" who got nailed for doping. sadly cheating is wide spread those the Eastern Bloc sort of elevated it to a real art.
