I have played a bit of Madden but I am certainly no expert on American Football but one thing that seems odd to me about it is that the QB is the only guy that passes pretty much and there is mostly only one pass per play. This seems insane to me since I am Australian and we play Rugby League and Rugby Union here and passing is very important to scoring tries ( touchdown ). The weirdest thing to me is that you can actually pass forwards in American Football and you still only pass once. What are the rules on a 'lateral' pass anyway? Does it need to go backwards of the hands or can it go forward? Because in my opinion if American Footballers passed the ball more you could score way more touchdowns - especially if laterals can go forward off the hands. In Rugby League and Union forward passes are illegal. We must break the line to score and our only flanking option is to kick. If we could pass forward it would make it easier to score tries. Wouldnt it make sense for American Footballers to actually keep the ball alive instead of taking the tackle?

I used to watch a bit of NFL when I was a kid and the thing that annoyed me the most about it aprt from all the stoppages is when you see an American footballer running down sideline and they are about to be tackled but instead of trying to break the tackle the player takes the ball out of bounds and avoids the hit. Why not try to break the tackle? Or better still - offload to a support player. Why not spend less time on 'blocking' and more on backing up for offloads to keep the play alive. I dont get it. If you step over sideline while in possession in League or Union it is a turnover and no League or Union player would actually step over line to protect themselves from a big hit even if they were a big contract player and it was legal - they would try to break the tackle. It disgusts me when I see these NFL players step over sideline and instead of trying to break the tackle. Why not go for a touchdown instead of new set of downs? At least try.

So when I say the end of game play in the Duke- Miami ACC game the other day I was impressed and wondered why teams dont do this kind of thing on every play like we do in League and Union. That was a better option than throwing a zero sum Hail Mary wasnt it? Of course. Now you can say that the refs missed some illegal stuff but clearly there is nothing stopping a team from throwing a heap of 'lateral' passes so why dont you Americans do that more often? Did the Miami coaches watch the Rugby World Cup and think the same thing that I always have? Eight laterals in the play. Why not do that every play? Worried about making a fumble?

An Aussie would never step out of bounds to avoid contact. And why not pass the ball more. Why not keep the ball alive? You dont even have a line of defense to break. There is no line. Defenders are scattered all over the place and there is no defensive line. cant be hard to break it with passing.

# And just so you Americans are aware - Jarryd Hayne is not a not a "Rugby Player". If you say "Rugby" that means Union. Hayne never played Union - he is from Rugby League. So all of these Americans saying that he is a "Rugby Player" are wrong and also annoying to Hayne/League fans. Rugby is Union. Hayne is not a "Rugby Player".

Union is very soft compared to Rugby League. Calling Hayne a "Rugby Player" is an insult. To him and to Rugby League.

Hayne played League - not Rugby.

The Miami player was down before he did a lateral. The refs blew that. The lateral marathon passing never seems to actually work. It is just a dying last grasp in hopes of slipping one in.
