Its that time of year again.. the biggest yearly sports event on the planet is back!

First games are done and a bad injury to Luke Shaw... hate to see those.

Looks like the trend from last year continues... we shall see tomorrow.

Dude...the League of Legends Championship doesn't start for a couple of weeks yet. Got plenty of time.

Horrendous tackle as well, how that's not a red card I will never know.

You see that kind of tackle all the time in the PL, plus he got the ball. Also refs asked on Talksport radio and Danish TV both say there was nothing wrong with the tackle.

He got the ball after going through the player and both of his feet were off the ground. It's a straight red and if it had been the other way around you and many others would be shouting from the rooftops about the English bully boys.

No both feet off the ground is not a straight red.. both feet off the ground with studs up is. And it has nothing to do with nationality, as least from me. Yes it was a hard tackle, but it was not illegal or dangerous. It was not from behind, it was not studs first.

Both feet off the ground nowdays will get you a straight red in most domestic leauges. Look at Gerrard last year vs United.

err first off the tackle that he did before his red card, was not two footed, nor "off the ground" at all... the ref did not even stop the game because there was no foul. What he did get sent off for was a stamp.

It was a late lunge. Regardless there was no reason for him to jump in like that, horrible tackle and extremley dangerous. The fact that he celebrated his goal a few minutes afterwards tells me all I need to know about his as a player and a person.

Late lunge? He went for and got the ball! Seriously, I have seen the tackle several times now, and it is not that bad.. seen far far worse. I think the fact someone broke a leg, has your judgement clouded. There was absolutely nothing violent or dangerous with that tackle.

LOL you have got to be kidding me. You do know that Moreno suffered the same injury a little over a year ago?

No you dont need to leap in with both feet to block a ball, especially if you have to go through the player first. It's reckless.

Yes, it was a straight red in my book. He lunged studs up to get to the ball. You do that in any league that's a red card.

:
What are you smoking? He lunged into the Luke Shaw, with studs up to get the ball. Under laws of the game ( Interpretation of the Laws of the Game, Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct): A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

That alone is a yellow, should have been a pen kick at least. There is absolutely no rule about getting the ball. NONE!

If this happened in La Liga it would have been a straight red.

Do you know why he broke his leg at the World Cup? Cause he lunged in against Robben. Btw, his injury was not that bad when compared to Luke Shaw.

Oh and he could have broken Robben's leg in the same way as Shaw's instead of his own.

Saw the same type of tackle several times last night in the Roma VS Barca game, only one yellow. Sorry but you are wrong and emotionally impacted because of the injury sustained.

If that is a red, then no team would be finishing with 11 men in the PL or La Liga each week. I know it was a bad injury but you need to take the emotion away and look at the tackle. Every ref expert that I have seen or heard have said that it was not a red card offense.

On a different note, the first round is done.

Barca draw to a wonder freak goal.. not seen that in a while. Arsenal lose yet again.

This means that 3 out of 4 English teams have lost in the first round.. has never happened before. I hope that they start upping their game and that the English teams tonight dont screw up, else England risks only getting 3 CL spots soon. They are fighting with the Italians atm over the 3 or 4 spots. The coefficents are computed based on the last 5 years and the Chealski win is about to go out of the computation. Since then English teams have not done well in any of the 2 competitions where as Italian teams have gotten much further than English teams.

Else no major shockers (other than Arsenal) last night.

Bring on the next round!

Emotionally impacted by the injury? For **** sakes. I don't care about the injury. It happens in the game. But that tackle was one which he left his feet.

Yes you are emotional as are are a lot of Brits over this..

Look at it again and again. He comes from the side (Luke Shaw can clearly see him) and he gets the ****ing ball. There is no feet off the ground, and he does not even touch the broken leg with his primary tackling leg.. which again.. gets the ball. It is his secondary balance leg that hits Luke Shaws broken leg. And the leg is only raised after the tackle in the follow through in what can only be described as a natural way.

I feel for Luke Shaw, but **** happens. Take the case of Henrik Andersen in the 92 Euros

Should Van Basteen have seen red for that tackle? Look at Henrik Andersens knee!!! Trust me I was emotional back then and spitting fire at Van Basteen, but after I calmed down, I realized it was a freak accident that happens on a football field once in a while.

No a horror tackle is stuff like this..

Which did not give a red card btw...

I think a small mention of last night's CL demolition of Sevilla by a certain sky blue outfit might be appropriate. Surely someone else saw this exercise in tactical brilliance and defensive discipline, didn't they?

If you think the DeJong tackle was worse than the Montero tackle then you're nuts. Why don't you let us experiment on you? Stand still while I kick you straight-legged in the chest, or wait while I snap your tibia and fibula like kindling. I'm pretty sure I know which you'll find more disagreeable.

Saw two similar "Shaw tackles" yesterday while watching the Real Madrid vs PSG, and so far have seen 2 in the Bayern slaughter of Arsenal.. none have given yellows and only one has given a free kick. Yes it was unfortunate that Shaw broke his leg, but it was bad luck not a dangerous tackle.

Just saw another "shaw like" tackle on Robben by an Arsenal player. No free kick either.
