And he believed Ashley? :lamo

I give it till early-November.

I don't know - remember my post a while ago that Ashley's dream is mid table in the Premier League? He'll support Benitez to get back into the Premier League and then the funds will dry up because Ashley won't want to go to the expense of buying the title as Chelsea and Man City did through buying hugely expensive players.

Well, Newcastle tried that years ago when John Hall was boss. They weren't very good at it.

Got to love the reason that Mourinho has not been appointed yet... Chealski owns his name/image rights...

They had a damned good go at it ~ 110 games in Europe, Champions League games and they reached Wembley. I'm not painting John Hall as a messiah and what you need to remember is the corrosive impact of Douglas Hall and Freddy Shepherd undermining everything good about the image of football at the same time.

BBC News | Football | Newcastle Utd directors resign

Mike Ashley said:
"I did not buy Newcastle to make money. I bought Newcastle to because I love football.

John Hall said:
"They wanted to market their sports goods in the Far East and would use the club to help do this."

So Jose, Pep and Klopp in the same division next season, oh my.

Zlatan signing as well I hear?

And number of trophies won? That would be 0 (zero) wouldn't it, IC?

That's wasn't the actual point we were talking about? It was whether Newcastle actually did any better under previous owners than the current ones.

Don't forget Conte!

Mazzarri is now managing Watford too, gonna be an interesting season for tactics nerds as well as the media circus!

And Wenger.. dont forget him.

But lets not get ahead of the game. They might be "big" managers, but they also have big problems in their teams.

Man City: Pep has a massive budget, but also a massive rebuilding situation. He needs new defenders across the board and a Yaya replacement. He also has to figure out the Sterling situation. Where does he get his players from. He has to compete against Real, Barca, Bayern, PSG and Juve/Milan teams, who all for many are far more attractive, and he certainly wont get any players from these teams cheaply if at all. He could go young, and build for the future.. under 18s from South America and Europe. Some big ones out there. Lucas Romero, Ruben Neves, Bazoer of Ajax, Thiago Maia of Santos.. plenty of young defensive midfielders, and quite a few young attacking..Hojbjerg from Bayern who wants to leave (although he has said he does not want to go to England), Tielemans from Anderlect..Meyer from Schalke.. they are out there.

Liverpool: Klopp also has a big rebuilding situation. One major defender is needed, and something "new" in the midfield. And then there is mr Injury.. aka Sturrige. And no
Europe.. Might be hard to attract players, well from outside Germany, but then again there is a lot of great players in Germany who might want to "downgrade" to a lesser league (from their view point) to play for Klopp.

Man U: Jose as well is in a rebuilding project. Mata has to go. He need to fix the midfield (they are old), and the defensive problems as well (lack of quality). Lots of money to spend though. And then there is the hit to the reputation of Jose, that could easily cause problems signing players. Players do talk to each other... just saying. But then again, Jose could also go young and go for the future.

As for Zlatan. He can be a great signing, or a massive problem... But he will be expensive if he comes, so that will mean less money for other replacements.

Chealski: Conte, no Europe, and a Jose that might be eyeing some of his talent. Hard to attract new players for that team. Could he get Dybala from Juve? Can he be convinced? Can anyone be convinced to play for Chealski with no European games?

Arsenal: Wenger still there.. still wont win anything and be 3rd or 4th at best. This year was a fluke ending 2nd..

Apparently Marcus Rashford is in contract renewal talks at Old Trafford - seeing how Mourinho is not a big fan of pushing home grown talent - do you reckon he should agree a new deal and stay?

If I were Rashford's representatives I'd be asking for a head-to-head discussion with Mourinho himself to see how he sees Rashford's immediate future at the club. If that's not forthcoming he might be advised to look to another club to develop his early career. Mourinho doesn't really have any kind of track record of nurturing young talent, even if United has.

Funny, even one MUFC website has an article on this.

There are genuine worries that Rashford will find game time hard to come by under Jose Mourinho, but are these worries in any way justified? And where are they coming from?
Much is made of Jose Mourinho’s unwillingness to try the youth out in the first team, people believe he simply will not do it.

I think Rashford should leave and join Everton.

Maybe, but that depends on who they'll have in charge next season. I'd certainly suggest that a second-tier (;))Premiership club like Everton, Southampton or West Ham might be ideal for him.

His weekly salary seems quite low if the contract renegotiations are looking for £25K a week - how would you feel if City offered him more than United and he signed over?

I'd be fine, but that's not going to happen. He's good, but we really don't need him. We have a very young, up-and-coming striker of our own who is even better than Rashford: Kelechi Iheanacho.

If he can become City's Didier Drogba you may be right. My fave African footballer was Jay-Jay Okocha though he never ended up at a really big team. Managers probably felt his football skills showmanship would detract from team play.

The Man U hitlist aka who gets fired is out.. well suspected one any ways..

Mata (well duh!), Rojo, Darmian, Valencia, Sergio Romero and ..... Memphis Depay.. wow..

Shocked about Depay, and a little pissed about Darmian. But poor Romero, a great goalkeeper.. not a nr. 2 imo.

Rojo imo never got his chance.

Valencia, well he is getting up there in age.

I wouldn't compare him to Drogba at all, simply because he's African. He's a very different player, reminds me more of Anelka - stunningly good with back to goal; a poacher but doesn't box hang like Drogba did; and really likes to run at defenders. What both he and Rashford share is that confidence of youth, willingness to take on a shot, even when it might be more sensible to pass. Both need to get their heads up and work with their striking partners better, but that'll come for both of them.

Funnily enough, looking at their 2015-16 record, they are neck-and-neck. Iheanacho has played more games, but fewer minutes, and has a better scoring record, but Rashford has probably scored more important goals. I don't see a lot to choose between them, but I wouldn't put them in the same team.

Looks like we're primed for next year's selections, and it would be a shame if I started the thread, Yank Arsenal supporter that I am.

Doesn't matter who starts the thread - I think I did once and I'm not a huge follower.
