Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has won his appeal of an indefinite suspension and has been reinstated to the NFL.

Rice is now eligible to sign with any NFL team...

U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones, who heard Rice's appeal earlier this month, concluded in her decision, which was obtained by ESPN, that Rice did not lie or mislead NFL commissioner Roger Goodell...

"Moreover, any failure on the part of the League to understand the level of violence was not due to Rice's description of the event but to the inadequacy of words to convey the seriousness of domestic violence. That the League did not realize the severity of the conduct without a visual record also speaks to their admitted failure in the past to sanction this type of conduct more severely."

Goodell knew what happened. Given that, I see no reason to believe he didn't see the interior video.

Goodell should go.

I don't think the debate involves Rice's actions, or those of the league, any longer. We now know that Goodell imposed the second suspension for nothing more than public relations and the NFL's policy and administration was woefully unsatisfactory. In the NFL's defense, the league has changed their policy and made efforts towards awareness.

The only debate is whether Goodell should go.

Well we could debate whether Ray Rice is now too toxic for any NFL team to hire him despite being freed up to do so.

Everyone likes a second chance. A team must merely present itself as a guardian savior providing counseling and support with no slack. Who doesn't want to see Rice grow as a person? Minnesota/Baltimore might not be able to pull that claim off (given they failed to oversee), but another team will try.

Given counseling and genuine remorse, I'd rather see him change than not.

I agree the suspension should have been lifted. I DONT know if there are any teams out there that would see picking him up as a good idea. If you are a playoff contender, you dont need the PR nightmare. If you arent a playoff contender, you dont need the PR nightmare.

Perhaps the best thing for him to do is to work to get back into playing shape and tryout for teams next year, try to make a squad, and play his way onto a roster. The teams could show genuine interest in helping both address the DV situation and supporting the rehab and growth of an individual and in fact, his spouse.

No one will touch him. At least not this year.

Does anyone believe Goodell should stay?

Not surprised he won his appeal and I doubt many teams will give him a look. As for Goodell I don't think much will happen to him. Owners may bitch at him in private over everything, but not sure it was enough for them to want to do anything else.

He's done a masterful job of dealing with this till people forgot or no longer care and he's made the NFL owners **** piles of money over the years. He's doing what the owners expect of him, he'll stay.

I believe sponsors will react to Goodell's actions (not only his decision of a 2 game suspension but his lying).

ps. 'Sup with the biological sex pejorative? You think the owners' complaints regarding his handling of the affair are not legit?

pfttt, everyone's already forgotten about it, water under the bridge.

You don't see a problem with an informed 2 game suspension nor Goodell's lies?
I do. And I see a mismanaged case. The first suspension was a 2 game suspension. That was light. He erred on the side of the player. He screwed up.

I read a comment from Ray Rices lawyer that said Ray Rice had told the league everything and it wasnt Rice's fault if the league didnt understand the language that was used but that there was no intent to deceive. Sounds like legalese to me. But thats pretty much the end of it. He screwed up. They slammed him with a bigger punishment after everything came out, and sunuvagun...the bigger punishment has just been overturned.

I dont need anyones heart on a platter over this. I have no doubt you will spend the next 638 posts insisting he be drawn and quartered.

I am just saying from what I've heard from my Sports Law professor who is close friends to a general counsel of an NFL team. I think he should be fired.

Why?.

I want Goodell sacked, that's all. I haven't seen disagreement herein.

Why? Perhaps an over-reaction.

You have seen disagreement.

But you want...

If Mike Vick can play, I don't see why Ray Rice shouldn't be able to play.

Did you ever see pictures of those dogs?

As a vegan, I'm offended. You eat mammals, right?

I consider myself a "strict" vagiterian. I only eat at the Y.

I dunno what that means and I don't wanna.

I don't wear it.
