NBA playoffs?

Good link. I made the call a decade ago... MJ is over rated in terms of the greats.

I will respectfully disagree. He's the best I've ever seen, and he's definitely on the Mount Rushmore of basketball. Right next to Russell, Wilt, Magic and Kareem in my book.

Michael Jordan dispelled the notion that you needed a good big man to win a title. He won six titles and his pivotmen were Bill Cartwright (at age 203) and Will Perdue for the first three, and Luc Longley and Bill Wennington for the second batch. Four guys who didn't play a decent minute of basketball between them after 1984.

FUN FACT: Jordan, a legendary asshole, used to call Will Perdue "Will Vanderbilt" in practice, because Jordan said Will Perdue wasn't good enough to be named after a Big Ten school. What a dick.

Michael Jordan also punched out Steve Kerr in practice once. Steve Kerr, who was a 6-3, 175 3-point specialist while Jordan was a 6-6, 195 greatest human being on the planet.

Michael Jordan was the best basketball player I've ever seen, but his asshole factor was over 9,000. Did you see his Hall of Fame induction speech? It was a giant **** you to anyone he had a grievance with the previous 30 years. What a prick he was.

It's nice to see the Raptors doing well. If I HAD to pick a team I'm pulling for this year (outside of San Antonio, much ups to Duncan), it would be them. I don't think the Raptors have a prayer in hell of getting out of the East, but it's great to see them relevant again. I'm a big Blue Jays fan, so I have a bit of a soft spot for Toronto teams whose names don't rhyme with Maple Leafs.

The Blue Jays drive me absolutely crazy - they can't handle pitchers and Gibbons seems to always make the wrong move - it's uncanny how bad he is. In 6 of the Jays last 11 games, the bullpen has blown leads of at least 3 runs - they should be leading the division, especially since no one else is playing that well.

The one thing I don't like about the NBA playoffs is that as things work out in the east, you're going to have the 2 seed playing the 3 seed and the 6 seed getting home field advantage against the 8 seed - that's just wrong. You may also have a similar mess in the west the way things are going.

Every soccer team in the world as well as most rugby teams and the Lakers... so, a lot.

Toronto fans support all their teams, not just their winning ones, especially since many fans can't remember winning teams!!

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE GODDAMN BLUE JAYS BULLPEN.

Sergio Santos ought to be taken out behind the SkyDome, read whatever rights he has in Canada and be summarily shot and buried in a shallow grave. And, of course, Casey Janssen can't rehab from his sore ***** in any due time, so they have to keep trotting these other losers out there.

Fortunately, Marcus Stroman is on his way up soon, which means Dustin "I've spent time on the DL every year since Clinton was president" McGowan will be shuffled off to the bullpen where he belongs, since he can't pitch more than two innings without running out of breath. He had an insulin pump installed for his start last night. AN INSULIN PUMP. And he's not even diabetic. What the actual ****?

The NBA should re-seed. It's only fair.

Also, CJ, agreed on Gibbons. He's brutal. And I'm starting to lose faith in Anthopolous, which makes me look like an asshole because I've been a steadfast defender of his since he got the job. I'm a big sabermetrics guy, and that's AA's game and he's DICKING IT UP.

I agree with all of that, and I don't want to get yelled at for thread jacking this to baseball, but I like McGowan and I think they should give him all the time he needs to build up his arm strength - he hasn't been a starter for over 5 years due to injury and rehab and like any player coming back from injury it takes time - he's going to be terrific if he's left in, into the summer. I remember they left Ricky Romero in there forever, coughing up 8 run games on a regular basis a couple of years back, to let him work his way out of it and Romero isn't/wasn't half the talent McGowan is.

Anthopolous and all the media types here who faun over him make me gag. The guy spent the first three years in the job basically as the general manager for their Las Vegas farm team - every trade or move was for prospects going to Vegas and then he pissed most of the good ones away on the Marlins trade and now he's back into turtle mode afraid to come out of his shell and do anything to help the team. The owners are too busy with their hands in the Leafs, Raptors, the soccer team, etc. to pay much attention and the whole Blue Jays front office should be shown the door. Toronto is too big a market to settle for farm team leadership talent on the major league team.

I was (and still am) OK with the Marlins deal. They got fleeced on the Dickey trade. Funny how the second they trade D'Arnaud, JP Arenshittia goes in the toilet and their only options now are Josh Thole and the execrable Dioner Navarro, a guy who couldn't ever get a starting job and is now making $4M a year.

The Marlins deal was fine on a talent level. Hechevarria can't hit and Jake Marisnick will never be a good major leaguer. And any move that got Yunel Escobar off the team was fine with me.

That's true, and Romero's recent (last two years) meltdown sucks because he's a good dude.

If you're going to give McGowan time to build up arm strength, you don't do it as a starter for a major league team that is a putative contender in what is turning out to be a surprisingly weak division.

I disagree - it's too early for Strohman to come up and pitch every 5 days and Happ and Redmond aren't nearly as good as McGowan is and there's huge upside for McGowan and none for the other two guys. There's a Sanchez guy, can't remember his name, who's a little behind Strohman as well who will be pretty good but not yet, provided Anthopolous doesn't gift him to somebody for nothing. I like the rotation just as it is, for now, particularly with the offense tuning up. If Gibbons and the bullpen coaching could just get a magic eightball to help out when making a move, they might actually get it right at least a couple of times.

Aaron Sanchez. Not close to being ready.

And as a Bulls fan, it was easy to laugh at this.
In another year, I'd love to see NeNe kick Big Baby's ass.

How about the possibility of suspending Paul George for entering a fight?
He broke the rules, but the NBA apologists on E$PN have a different set of rules in this case .

I actually like the Bulls since I grew up watching them since they were always on TV thanks to WGN (Similar to how the Braves were my team growing up, because they were always on TV as well, thanks TBS). I still have a soft spot for them and when the Wizards aren't in the playoffs (see, most of hte time) they're usually the team in the East I root for.

But right now the team is just not a contender without Rose. I love Noah, but he's a #2 being forced into the #1 guy role and it just doesn't work.

But it's okay....Wizards win, now I need OKC to lose, and then I need that to happen again next year. And then we need to lure Durant back home to DC.

I was in OKC in mid-March for the NCAA division one wrestling finals--loved the city and weather at THAT time.
Chesapeake is a great arena and I got mezzanine seating, close enough to see the private mez boxes.
The headline in the OKC paper may help chase Durant out of town.

I've felt for a while that Durant would come home to the highest bidder, but haddn't considered DC.
DC is becoming a big-time city with sports, with the Nationals along with your Redskins ,

I disagree -
It's early, but it sure looks like another game 7 is setting up with your Raptors.
Things are playing out for the NBA, but there is precedence for supending Paul George.
And your fans are pretty cool inside your stadium right now.
13 years is a long time .

Z-Bo suspended heading into Memphis-OKC Game 7. Kind of a weak "punch."

Last night (5/2) the Portland Trailblazers advanced beating tje Houston Rockets 99-98. The Portland Trailblazers were down 96-98 with only .9 left on the clock. The ball is in bounded to Damian Lillard who makes a 3-point shot for the win. The shot can be seen in the video below:

I notice that all the games going to seven still saw the favorite team walk away with an easy victory. I guess this goes to show that basketball really does not matter until the months with an "R" are over.

Dwight Howard was a waste of $100 Million. A guy who can;t sink free throws is a liability down the stretch.

I'd rate this in the top 10 all time great moments in the NBA playoffs. A sophomore point guard making a three point buzzer-beater to clinch a series for a team that's gone through a 14 year playoff series drought. All this talk about LeBron, Jordan and what-not are pretty lame compared to this play. I've only been a Blazer fan for about 35 years, so you might call me a little biased, but I think that they are the sleeper team of the playoffs. Aldridge is scoring pretty much at will, Lillard is taking charge, the bench is actually putting up some points for once. All they really need is some consistency from Batum and I think that they are the team to beat if you want to win the big game.

I think that he's over-paid for his level of talent as well, but to judge a guy who's greatest skill is his defensive presence and ability to dominate the low post on a few missed free throws is pretty unfair to him.

I'm not following that close, but I heard a report saying Houston has to pull Howard at the end of the game because of his unreliable free throw shooting, which then hurts the defense. ESPN stated that this is why Portland won the series.

Basketball sucks. It is nothing more than 10 men playing ping pong back and forth. Name one other sport where you are 99% guaranteed a score like a tall center stuffing the ball. They need to raise the basket 18 inches so they have to SHOOT the ball instead of stuffing it. Why not just pull the goalie from hockey? Same thing.
