Should taxpayers who care nothing about football continue to subsidize college and professional football? Whether at the college level or the professional, taxpayer dollars are spent from everything from infrastructure, the building of stadiums, to the direct payment of football coaches at universities, many of whom are often the highest paid officials in their colleges. And these are supposed to be institutions of higher learning.

Are You Ready for Some (Tax-Subsidized) Football on Championship Saturday? - Hit & Run : Reason.com

1). Tax payers don't subsidize the NFL it is a non profit organization. It collects dues and spends them. The teams pay taxes, and are a for profit entity.

2). Tax payers often choose to subsidize stadiums which to me is a mistake often promoted by the teams, leagues etc, but only a few times have those subsidies ever cost tax payers a dime. They usually enable a city to employ a lot of people and events usually mean a strong business env.

3). Colleges generally raise more money out of football then is ever put into it.
