It always seems to me the people most against Sex education in schools are always well the worse people to give sexually education. It always seems that they are the kinda of people whos only input on the subject is "dont do it".
However on the other hand do these kids really know so little about sex they dont realise or think of using protection?

School teaches you a lot of theory under controlled conditions, yet in the real world those conditions are not always controlled. But we do not ask schools to change the teaching of these theories.

No, it's just an excuse and a 'pass the blame' game. When you find out where babies come from (and if you don't know this by the time you are a teen you are very, very sheltered), you know they come from having sex. If you have common sense you will realize when you start to have sex you are at risk of getting pregnant. Then, if you are smart, you will seek out information on how to prevent it. It is no excuse to say they weren't "educated" about using condoms. As you said in another thread, it's because they don't care about getting pregnant. It's the cool thing to do now after all. |

Current Mood: | Re: Sex education and Sarah Palin I'm a big believer in teaching comprehensive sex ed in school. That said, I find it laughable that anyone believes in this day and age with computers and what not that it is even possible let alone plausible that any child could reach their teen years while remaining completely sheltered when it comes to condoms and birth control.
I DO NOT for one minute believe that pregnant teenagers are ignorant on birth control measures. I simply don't buy it. Kids today have their own myspace pages, etc. I don't know how stupid you think I am to buy for one minute the notion that a kid might not know about condoms because their sex ed class didn't feature a middle aged gym teacher sliding a condom over a banana.
It is, in my mind, completely retarded to assume Sarah Palin's daughter did not know about condoms and birth control. Also, if you recall, there was a boy involved too. Right? So are we assuming he, as well, was completely ignorant?
Sorry, I'm not buying it.
Teens have always gotten pregnant and they will continue to do so. I don't think "education" is nearly as important as accessibility and I'm not sure I support giving out birth control and condoms in school during school hours. Which is, in my mind, the only thing that might make a difference. |

I do, I don't want to be a father, or get some stupid STD. I guess the reason we don't use protection is because we just don't think it will actually happen.

Bingo. The stupidity of youth. You say "we" and "other kids" so are you a teenager? If so, how old and what kind of sex ed are you getting (or not getting)? |

Last year was my first year of Catholic sex ed, really wasn't that different from public school sex ed just with more push on the belief on no sex until marriage . They talk about how abstinence is the only fool proof method and if you do have sex use a condom and birth control pills. |
