As less changes are made annually, and more people still do not see the problem with public schools, this will likely only get more and more obvious. | Actually, the public school system is a smashing success.
Its aim is to manufacture graduates that are consumers first, employees second, loyal citizens after that. There is no interest whatsoever in turning out students who are capable of critical thinking and questioning authority, much less invention or innovation. Minds are being molded for maximum profitability.
These conclusions seem rather obvious to me when you look at the results the various school systems achieve every year, and in what respect those results are changing from year to year.

Current Mood: | Re: Has US abstinence policy failed? You're all giving public schools way to much credit. Seriously.
Most teenagers don't pay any attention to anything that's taught there anyway.
Their main concerns are their social lives.
You seriously think any of them pay attention to what their teachers say, or are influenced by adults they encounter at school?
I mean, as a policy decision, I think it's great if there's a policy that "the purpose of public schools is not to teach morality or attempt to indoctrinate students or instill your own subjective opinions" or whatever.
But as a practical matter... I think it hardly matters what teachers say.
Who's listening?
They could probably get up in front of the class and recite dialogue from "H.M.S. Pinafore" or "Porgie and Bess", and their students would still just keep staring glaze-eyed into space, their minds a million miles away.
