Current Mood: | Homosexuality Spectrum: Really Scientific! I actually was going to title this thread "The Gay Spectrum" but then when I read it aloud..."The Gay" just sounds too right-wing
Now let me preface this formally, but also humorously, by indicating that the following spectrum may be superficial and may not be adequate enough to encompass all gay men. Additionally, this spectrum may not fit so well for lesbians, as it clearly does not use representatives of the correct gender group.
Now I give you the spectrum! From the sitcom "Will & Grace," participants should fit somewhere between the flamboyant and outrageous Jack and the sensible and moderate Will. --1--2--3--4--5--6--7--8--9--
1) If you are gay, where would you fit in this spectrum?
2) Homosexuality not being a prerequisite for this question, where do you think some DP posters fit on this spectrum?

Now, when you say that you're "pretty damn gay," I'm not sure what you mean. I chose the two guys up top because they sort of acted like opposites of each other most of the time.
Jack is totally flamboyant and in your face gay. While WIll, I think may be somewhat timid of his homosexuality, but does not deny it. |

Gender: | Re: Homosexuality Spectrum: Really Scientific! you need a y axis.
X can be how "gay" (as in effeminate or flaming) and y can be how "normal" (as in how deviant from heterosexual norms)
y would be somthing like this:
this:
as the most extreme...
to this:
as the least extreme. |

Not effeminate, do not like what I call "gay-boy music" (you know, dance), love hard guitar-driven music, love football, do not really sleep around (anymore), could not care less about hairstyles or fashion (I clip my hair almost bald, but not all), and I have no idea what Cher, Madonna, or Britney Spears are up to this week.
Did I miss any stereotypes?
I suppose I would be more like Will. |

I view fasion as costumes, and subcultures happen to have the best costumes. I'm not necessarily into the rest of the lifestyle.
snobs love to call me a "fashion punk" at shows, and I always respond "if that means I like fashion, and having a job, then sure" |

I suppose I would be more like Will. | where are guys like you? all I ever meet are opposing extremes. Either fag- get twinks or burly leather daddies. there must be normal guys somewhere. |

The other day, when I was riding the bus, this guy comes in and sits next to me and starts playing music from his cell phone. It was very annoying since he didn't have any earphones, and I said to him, "You know your music sounds like a gay bar..." Now I know that may sound pretty offensive, but the guy looked like he had a sense of humor, and he did because he answered, "Where do you think I got it from?" |
