Lean: Independent Gender: Awards: | Ladies, what does this mean?? Recently my best friend and his wife found out that they were going to be having a baby boy. The time leading up to this it was remarked by many people that "He needs to have a daughter". The same things were said about me leading up until the discovery of our childs sex. And when one of my other friends found out him and his wife were having a girl, my wife remarked " Thats good, John needs to have a daughter".
What does that mean, when people say that a guy "needs to have a daughter"?

This is supposed to be a polite way to call a guy a chauvinist pig, and supposedly having a girl will change his ways. |

I'm an individualist, so I certainly don't act chauvinistic around women.
It's actually the opposite - I feel no need to hold doors open, to stand when seated, etc. etc.
I've been known to belittle the need for more then a couple pairs of shoes, and so on.
But yes, it does work. Listening to a grown women talk about wanting to be a princess would of turned my stomach, but it doesn't bother me at all too see my little girl wanting to be one....And I always open the door for her.
I'm pretty sure I haven't gotten over the shoe thing though. |

As the father of a teen daughter, I learned a TON of patience.....She kept wanting to do things too soon for her age and didn't like me saying no.
She finally grew up and we get along fine now, but there were days that I had to tell her "because I said so, and that is all there is to it".
I am not sure of it, having only had the one girl and one boy, but I think I would rather raise 5 more boys than one more girl....

I am not sure of it, having only had the one girl and one boy, but I think I would rather raise 5 more boys than one more girl.... | I have a rebellious teenage son and sometimes I think I want to pull all my hair out because I'm not sure how to deal with him.
but I also remember my sister was horrible, not only to our parents, but to everyone in the vicinity.
So with the experiences I've had, I agree that I'd rather raise a boy.
I can't say I'd rather raise 5 of them though. You sure about that number, Utah? |

What does that mean, when people say that a guy "needs to have a daughter"? | They're saying the person needs to learn to understand women/girls better and learn sympathize more with women/girls and what they go through. A man already knows and understands a boy. A baby girl brings out something different in a man. A more caring, sympathetic, babying side to him that is often lacking.
