When a spouse/SO lies to you, does it matter that the lie was little, or is it about the principle?

I think what matters are the circumstances surrounding the lie. If I ask my husband if a dress I am wearing makes me look fat and he says it doesn't (even though he thinks it kind of does make me look fat), that's not a terrible lie. If he tells me he loves a meal I cooked, but really doesn't like it, that's not a terrible lie. If he tells me he was out with Joe but was really out with Joanna, that's a problem (even if nothing happened).

Just a point of reference for other males. When your wife asks if the dress makes her look fat, never say the following.....

"Its not the dress that makes you look fat, its the fat"

My own take;

I don't think little white lies refering to appearance are alarming. They may be annoying but not alarming. My dh is pretty honest when it comes to me asking about my appearance, which I appreciate. Of course his stance is that I look sexy in just about everything I wear, so there goes getting an objective opinion. However,the examples I gave would be alarming b/c if it's that easy to lie about something so little, what else have they lied about in the past? I guess one could say that is hypocritical, since I'm excusing 'some' white lies.

Every so often i find alot of women do something to their appearence that looks terrible usually a bad hair cut.What should i say in that situation?

Why do women do that anyway?

Because it looks better on someone else or a picture and they decide to take the plunge before actually trying to think about if it would look right on them.

My wife has been threatening to cut her hair really short for some time right now. It would look horrible on her. I don't even know anything about that kind of stuff, and I can just imagine how terrible it would look. So I do what I can to prevent her from getting it cut too short. Her friend got her haircut really short and now she looks dumb. I tell her that she will look like that too.

Tell her to try a virtual makeover. You can just google that and there's a couple of websites where you can do it for free. You just upload a picture of yourself and can try different hairstyles/color/ make up and get an idea how it would look. I can say that saved me a bottle of hair dye or two
