| I thought you were asking if there was a reason for anyone to get married, I would have to know more about your particular situation if you are asking for personal advice on whether or not YOU should get married. |

Current Mood: | Re: Is there any reason to get Married anymore? I've been married twice because I've got a Catholic family, and they won't accept me just living with a guy and not marrying him.
I mean, they'll accept it, but they won't accept him, as a family member, unless I marry him.
And since my social life centers around family to a large degree, this simply wouldn't work. It would be too awkward.
My divorce was hugely expensive (I wasn't the one who paid for it, but still), and I wasn't anxious to marry again, although I didn't want to be single, either.
I wanted to live with my then-boyfriend, who is now my husband.
That's when I realized that this just wouldn't be acceptable to my family, which is weird because they're quite progressive in some ways. But in order for them to accept and trust my significant other, you know... we have to be married.
Both marriages were secular; courthouse marriages.
So I don't think it's about religion, or sin, or immorality, or anything like that.
I think it's more about practical concerns, about security; my family thinks I'll somehow be safer and have more security and stability if I'm married. Although I'm not entirely sure why they think so.

Lean: Conservative Gender: | Re: Is there any reason to get Married anymore? I fancy the idea of someone vowing to love me until the day I die and I doing the same in return. I don't care about the contract but that is the way things work around here, and it does have its perks.
Maybe the real question is if there is any reason to trust someone's word anymore?
I was quite shocked and disgusted when I read an online article quoting a woman saying she never would have married if she thought she couldn't get out of it whenever she wanted to. I find something wrong with making a marriage vow in front of all your relatives, friends and to the person you love when in fact its a blatant lie. Is the sense of honor in society really that low?
