Well maybe some pedophiles don't have a power thing. If it can discourage 1 pedophile from acting on his disgusting "craving", then it's a good thing.

My thoughts exactly. I have a feeling that if we develop AI androids that can fully react to people's needs we will probably drive ourselves to extinction because we would just buy our companions instead of looking for the real thing.

Isn't Japan heading in something along that direction? I've read that they've become a largely asexual nation and that numerous people make no bone (ha ha) about dating life size dolls. Of course, there's always the possibility that second part is just one of those media things we like to report that continues the message, "Hey, Japanese people. Are they crazy or what?"

You could probably trace their bizarre sex problems to us (yes, as in us...Americans). Their porn was perfectly normal until we went in and banned smut, so they pixellated their hoo-ha spots and replaced them with tentacles. It's a pretty good example of where the Prime Directive should have been followed.

I would suggest that it is unlikely to prevent tragedy and likely to create more tragedy.

Theres no way to know how many people have sexual fantasies or feel that they are predisposed to sexual attraction for children but some estimates are as high as 5% (pedophile attraction by women under-reported). The number of those that act even by possessing and viewing child pornography is lower than the numbers of those expressing attraction and the number of those that actively pursue as offenders is even smaller. Societal standards and belief systems tend to be enough for many to repress their internal drive. But the availability of a lifelike doll? I believe that could cause some to actually increase levels of fantasy and even perpetrate where they might otherwise not have done. Obsession is never a good thing. Drawing a connection to a doll whether it be a child doll or an adult doll is going to be destructive.
