Last month, Cory Jones, a top editor at Playboy, went to see its founder Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion. In a wood-paneled dining room, with Picasso and de Kooning prints on the walls, Mr. Jones nervously presented a radical suggestion: the magazine, a leader of the revolution that helped take sex in America from furtive to ubiquitous, should stop publishing images of naked women. Mr. Hefner, now 89, but still listed as editor in chief, agreed. As part of a redesign that will be unveiled next March, the print edition of Playboy will still feature women in provocative poses. But they will no longer be fully nude.

That will save the publishing company from having to pay any models.

The other content and illustrations can then become their bread and butter.

Someone was thinking outside the box when they came up with this one.

Besides, there are better girlie magazines than Playboy to take with you out to sea or to the deserts of A-stan anyway -- anyplace where you cannot get the Internet or can't bring your computer.

There is plenty of free access porn on the internet, it is surprising to me that printed port survives.

You can usually still find printed girlie magazines in frat houses, at barber shops, on board ships, and in the deserts with the military.

You must have led a very sheltered Utah life.

not really, grew up in Texas, joined the Navy for 12 years, then lived in Idaho, then AZ, now Utah....
and I am a bit germophobic so I wouldn't want to handle other people's porn.
I have never seen any in a barbershop.

I'm not germophobic and the thought of handling porn magazines even touched by others is gross

Better yet, JUST DIE PLAYBOY, DIE.

#1 folder
#2 a printer

You can print out more porn than ever imaginable for your excursions to bum****land, and you're not paying a moronic premium for it, just the paper and ink that it's printed on. Hell, if you can get away with using a public printer or something then you get it free lol.

I would imagine there are certain patrols where due to weight burdens already, like food water and ammo, that you cannot bring a computer or palm device with you.

When I was in, and humping with the grunts, the C rats and the water were the things you wanted most of, plus extra ammo, not porn.

Even so, an occasionally snuffy would stuff a playboy into his rucksack.

Haversack, napsack, tent roll, deuce gear, helmet, Kbar, pistol, mags for the pistol, carbine, mags for the carbine, bandoleers for the carbine, binos, canteens, water, C rats, pocket can opener, cigarette lighter, poncho, E-tool, machete for the jungle, compass, map, flashlight, extra batts for the flashlight, extra batt for the radio, change of skivis and sox, paracord, camo stick, Kbar sharpener, rifle bore punch, gun lube, gun rag, washrag, soap, razor, toothbrush, paste, foot powder, deodorant stick, nail clippers, safety pin, tweezers, canteen cup, note pad and 2 pens, roll of TP, ... .

I am guessing you don't need a machete for the desert. But a scoped M-14 would probably be nice. Carbines don't work well for desert ops other than CQB.

What about playing cards with pictures of naked ladies on them?

So what the Hell's the point? It'll basically be a glorified version of the the Sears underwear catalog.

yeah, that excuse has been around since the 60's....;)

Funny thing is, they are good.
When I was in high school, I'd find ways to get out of going by skipping, faking sick, etc.

I usually had to hide in my room, until my dad left for work and ended up reading playboy articles.

Actually, external hard drives like these are all the rage in the military these days. They're tiny and weigh basically nothing, but can hold terabytes worth of material, and all you have to do is plug them into your computer to view it.

playboy was the king of men's magazines for a long long time

some of their interviews were ground breaking....

i remember the Stanley Kubrick interview....circa late 60's (2001 a space odyssey)....freaking fascinating....i was a HUGE fan of his

they interviewed Martin Luther King i think in 64/65....most people had never really heard of him until that moment....at least you hadnt if you werent part of the "movement"....it brang him somewhat into the mainstream....

Steve Jobs did an interview way back in 80's.....it was when he was originally forced out @ apple and started next....

some of the comedy was also incredible that was posted there.....

playboy was the ****.....

and if you were a college football fan, you had to get their issue featuring their preseason all americans

yeah....i was a fan for years

I dont know, pornography has never done anything for me. But some photos of partially clothed women makes me want to them alot further and imagine what lies underneath.

In short, the tease is the point. My bet is that it will be great marketing move.

Yup.

Or.... at least.... that's what I've heard from..... friends.....

forgot about that one

there were a LOT of extraordinary interviews

people who hated giving interviews, would give one to playboy for some reason

wasnt there a Bette Davis one that caused a stir?

trying to remember more of them

Hefner may have been an ass, but he knew how to run a magazine....and get stuff done

Wish i would have kept all those issues....bet some are worth money now....

Cause the articles actually are pretty good.

My dad had stacks of Playboys in the house when I was growing up and when my mom was asking why he collected them he gave the exact same excuse- he was reading them for the articles. ;)

Mine too. And I "borrowed" them to read the articles. :)
