Are there a lot of men lining up to have their penises cut off just so they can compete in women's sports? If so, that is some serious commitment to the cause right there.

They are all pre-op. And likely to remain Pre Op until they are done competing. At which point they will probably discover that they now feel like men :)

Yeah, that would be my bet as well.

I am strongly in favor of transgender rights. In most cases it doesn't make a difference whether you treat someone as a male or female, surgery or not, so why not let people be themselves?

But there has to be some common sense. In a few situations it does matter. Sports, particularly at the elite levels, is one of those situations. At the very least they should be post-op with years of hormone treatment and then get cleared by doctors that they no longer have a biological advantage for the sport they are competing in. I think that is a tough bar, though. Hormone treatment would have to begin at fairly young age to accomplish that.

And in the end it may just not be doable for some sports. I remember one guy who was a double amputee who wanted to compete in sprinting competitions using his prosthetic legs. It was determined that the prostheses actually game him an advantage and wasn't allowed to compete. Sports are inherently unfair.
 
OP doesn't make sense unless you take a bizarre impression on the liberal perspective of trains issues.

I have always argued it seems fairer to the sport to measure the structure of a trans person and exclude those trans people outside the range of what a given sex usually performs at -- like weight classes. Some transgenders may be within that range, especially those who had puberty delay treatment prior to transition.

This has nothing to do with the legitimacy of trans people. It has to do with the limitations of medical science in treating them. Their neurology is what it is, but we are not perfect at transitioning the body yet.

This is funny as hell to me.

Especially since I am fully imagining that smoke is coming out of the guys and girls' ears that believe our gender roles are locked by our biology.
