Would a world without Gender and Sex be a more peaceful world?

An idea kind of like this was presented in the movie "The Giver" and everyone was completely at peace.
The one issue was they were for some reasons killing babys that were not the correct weight, and they did not like twins(Which I think they just used as conflict device)
Most of the movie things seemed totally perfect. So thoughts, discussion, ecs?
 
who knows, put a bunch of neutered men in a big fishtank, and see if they're peaceful.

there was still gender in the giver, and they never say sex doesn't happen

Actually yes they do. They give them pills so they do not desire such things, and when him and the girl stop taking the pill they hook up. Its painfully obvious.

yeah but they never actually say nobody has sex, they have "birthmothers" so theyre getting the sperm from somewhere. plus gender roles still existed you could even say strictly enforced its not like a girl could say no thanks i dont want to be a birth mother im transgender

Only if one assumes most violence is over sex or gender... hint, it isn't. Most average daily violence seems to be the result of the war on drugs and the gangs that it has created, similar to the violence during Prohibition. Some is certainly jealousy and such, not the majority though.

Some things on that list like unwanted pregnancies and STDs are not violence hence are not un-peaceful.

Even if you remove all those others that can be violent, you'd still not have a peaceful society. As I mentioned above there is a lot of violence that has nothing to do with sex or gender, but with power and money, including but limited to police violence against citizens, gang and related drug violence, revenge violence not related to sex such as the recent reporters, etc. So no matter how you cut it, removing sex and gender from a society would not end violence, hence it would not create a peaceful society.
 
I imagine it would be a more violent world, because everybody would be frustrated all the time with no way to vent it.
 
A non-human world? Who knows?

Aside from what must be the negligible contribution of sex-related crimes to the big picture, you'd still have politics, violent crime and military conflict.

Star Trek:The Next Generation actually dealt with this concept, at least gender, in one episode. In particular it had been removed from the society artificially.
 
It could never exist and the very idea of it is a new kind of stupid.

And it was more just a matter of oppression. The concept of gender was still there, it was just heavily repressed, talk of male or female feelings warranted being ostracized and re-educated.

It was an interesting episode, I remember that one.

Star Trek has covered everything lol.

Age is a gender. Society expects certain things from a child as opposed to an elder. Was age gender removed? If not, we're talking about removing gender from sex and sexuality but not entirely. This brings up the question: is gender always a bad thing. Is it bad to have certain expectations of children, elders and in between?
 
without sex would there be many relationships?

not that i think friendship can't have the same value, but would anyone live with another because they can't stand not to if sexual attraction didn't exist?

Without sex we would cease to be human. We are a sexual species, meaning we reproduce sexually. That is sex's only function. If we were asexual like earth worms would we still be human?

How exactly would you go about creating a world with no gender? As much as some people like to imagine gender is all in the mind, there are some fairly large and obvious physical differences between male and female bodies. How exactly do you intend to get everyone to ignore that?
 
Why even go there? Sex is great, gender is just fine. I don't want to be defined as an it. Hot chick is much better.
It doesn't matter what kind of utopia we dream up, it will not ever solve all conflicts or problems, and it surely won't make everyone happy.

A twilight zone episode did the same thing. There is no beauty when everything is exactly the same.

ANY utopian dream of a world where there is complete peace and everyone gets along is an absolute fantasy.

Since recorded history there have only been about 268 years of peace...ever.

Just look at any website. There is not a reader of this that has not had some poster want to wring their neck for something they posted. It is human nature to cause harm to those who they do not like. Or say things they do not like.

I don't think the human race would survive.

We are genetically programmed to desire sex almost above all else. During famine, plague, and natural disaster. Without that strong and irresistible sexual urge, I doubt we'd even be around.
 
If it was just human beings but without gender and sex? Maybe a little. A lot of issues stem from gender and sex, but plenty also stem from ethnicity, religion, and what sports teams someone likes.

I'd have to disagree with the "totally perfect".


They didn't even have the freedom of their own thoughts, and their actions were constantly monitored and constrained. Deviation from acceptable behaviors resulted in being quietly put to death.


Hardly a utopia.
 
Without gender and sex you would have zero people.

That would be a peaceful world but it's not going to happen.

This is another time-wasting thread that accomplishes nothing.
