Obviously an absurdly bad day in the life of any woman, but I suppose that's the point. Made me feel distinctly uncomfortable.

Edit: Just remembered there are breasts in the video so can mods to whatever necessary to this thread?

women can be exceedingly cruel and disgusting as any man. More so in some cases.

Is jogging without a shirt a normal thing for women to do in France? I thought that was supposed to be painful?

needs more breasts. Luckily I watched it without the sound.

Stopped watching at 37(s). I get it.

Dismissed.

For those who didn't give two ****s: it's the events that led up to and after a person was raped, including the negative backlash that some victims receive when they're blamed for being sexually assaulted. They shot it all with role reversal: women portraying men, men portraying women.

I'd say it's pretty accurate in comparison to what I've experienced in my life. The role reversal draws attention to it, because if it was a woman being a woman and men being men then no one would think anything of it because it would just be ROUTINE.

And the guys don't like it? LOL - That's funny. I wonder why. Did it make guys look like assholes? Well - many are. I'm not surprised that the guys would only comment on the breasts and dismiss the actual point (which is just proving the point that the skit presents, really).

*Sarcastic clap*

I'm sure a few guys from the board will step up and be serious with their responses and not playing the part of a haughty teen.

I watched it too, and your experiences in life must be vastly different than mine. In watching it, I didn't see anything that seemed to ring true. I don't know any man who behaves as the women in that film did, nor do I know of any woman who is raped and treated like that. Perhaps it differs from city to city and culture to culture, dependent upon where one lives. But, in the end, this seemed more like a propaganda film than any sort of true social commentary.

Clearly it's a cultural and regional thing - but thankfully it's not "everyone - all the time."

I got the point well enough. Honestly, however; the thing that kept throwing me off about it is that most men wouldn't put up with the kind of treatment the video portrays in the first place. It's really not in our temperament.

While this arguably doesn't really matter to the point the video was trying to make, it does make things more than a little bit disconcerting. The men in the video simply do not behave like men.

Beyond even that, the stereotypical behaviors it eludes to really are not all that common anymore in the first place.

Did you read the Steubenville case? That sort of behavior is unfortunately common pretty much everywhere. Hell, you can look the archives in this very forum for the usual "blame the rape victim" mentality.

Does it happen that rape victims get ujustly blamed? Yes. But, I was talking about my own personal experiences in life, and what I have seen in my day-to-day, and I don't really see much of that.

So basically you took a bad day in a man (who is supposed to be a woman) life and said that said thing is "role reversal", made to raise awareness or something. Of what? Of the fact that there are hooligans in the streets? I say that because that whole part with the muslim family seems pretty silly, it won't make any muslims change their mind because that's just how they are. But the whole rape part is the one that is supposed to hit people hard in the face and the only thing I see in it is that hooliganism is a problem.

Our temperament is engineered by our culture. If we lived in a matriarchal culture our temperaments would be different.

Men only "act like men" because as little bitty babies we are treated differently. Our behavior is learned not instinctual.

I once thought that too. I haveseen behind the vail however. My line of work shows me what society really is and I have gone on a number of domestic disturbance calls. I assure you this is very prevalent, we just don't want to hear about it.

Purely cultural explanations for gender behavior are nonsense. Men and women can be shown to be fundamentally different on a biological level.

Our brains and central nervous systems process thoughts and emotions...

Livescience - Emotional Wiring Different in Men and Women

...and even physical sensations of pain...

Howstuffworks - Do men and women feel pain differently?

...in completely different ways.

Frankly, even beyond that, the simple fact of the matter is that the average man is, on average, somewhere around two or three times most women's physical size and strength.

Barring some rather incredible extenuating circumstances, the only way a man is getting "raped" by a woman, or even a small group of women, is if he allows it (which is pretty much exactly what the man in the video did).

Domestic abuse, while it certainly takes place, is not the norm for most people or most relationships. It never has been.

Irrelevant brain structures and coping with emotions have absolutely nothing to do with adhering to cultural memes.

Irrelevant. Dominance isn't established by physical strength in our culture.

Or if they over power him.

it may not be the norm but it is definitely present. I don't know what experience you speak from but based on your statements it isn't reliable.

"Irrelevant" why? Because you say so?

The fact of the matter here is that your claim that "men only behave like men because of culture" is patently false. Differences between the genders which result in stereotypically "masculine" temperamental characteristics (i.e. increased aggression, tendencies towards interpersonal dominance, and favoring analytical solutions over emotion) can actually be shown to exist at the level of biology.

This is verifiable scientific fact, which no serious scientist or evolutionary biologist would ever dream of disputing.

Irrelevant. Dominance isn't established by physical strength in our culture.

There is a reason why the vast majority of rape, domestic violence, and inter-gender violent crime in general tends to be male on female, rather than the other way around. "Culture" has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Immoral and psychotic men violently take advantage of women because they physically can. The same is really not true of their female counterparts, who generally have to rely upon more subtle and manipulative methods.

Or if they over power him.

Good luck with that.

I take a great interest in sex stereotypes and roles, I thought the film was great. It displayed many of the double standards inherent in society in a way I found hilarious. A good film, if you're interested in the message it's sending. Some people will simply shut out the message because of cognitive dissonance (post #5) or rationalise/minimise the message (post #2).

Could have used more boobs though.

Prove it.

So matriarchal societies are myth?

Culture has everything to do with it. Prove it doesn't.

:lamo

Most of the domestic violence situations with men abusing women were not because the man was stronger, they are typically pathetic little runts. That have emotionally manipulated their wives.

Boy, please keep talking the more of your nonsense I read the more I realize you have no clue.

Good luck with that.
You think you can fight off three women? I bet one could kick your ass. Women are much stronger than they think and men are never as strong as they say they are. I don't like to fight with women, they fought with everything they have. Pinch a man in the right spot they will scream for mommy.

Left/Right Brain? Genetic Sex Differences

The facts starting to sink in yet, or have you donned your box again, as per usual?

So matriarchal societies are myth?

Yup. The closest thing to that which has ever been observed to exist are Matrilineal societies.

Frankly, even they still tend to favor gender roles more or less in line with expected norms; with men serving as warriors, hunters, and chieftains, while women tend to more domestic matters. The balance of power is simply a bit more skewed in the women's favor.

The concepts of masculinity and femininity can be observed to exist regardless of any particular culture.

Culture has everything to do with it.

The science involved disagrees.

Even a "runty" man is stronger than the vast majority of women.

Are you really trying to deny the fact that men are physically stronger than women?

Dude... Just stop. Really.

If you find yourself getting regularly overpowered by women half your size, that is your problem, not mine, or any other man's.

I agree, it's always good to see things from the other perspective. Sadly it is wasted on people that hold flawed contentions. Post #18

False.

Strictly cultural.

still doesn't prove that such behaviors are not learned.

The science involved disagrees.
What science? I haven't seen any that says definitively that culture is not the major factor in this. You posted some things about how men and women are biologically different (duh!) Anybody that watched kindergarten cop knows that. You posted nothing that debunks culture as the driving force in behavior.

You really like being in your box don't you?

Even a "runty" man is stronger than the vast majority of women.
:lamo. You haven't a clue. Go work in a ladies prison and then come back tomorrow and apologize for such a ridiculous asumption.

Go pick a fight with a lady, btw enjoy having your ass handed to you.
Are you really trying to deny the fact that men are physically stronger than women?
In some ways women are Steiner than men. If you don't believe me cram a baby sized obgect out of an orafice of your choice.

Men can lift more weight, that doesn't translate to stronger. Sorry.

That is because you are culturally programmed to believe they are weaker. You under estimate opponents, see how many times you get smashed into the ground. I have seen a woman kick a door completely off of a patrol car. She wasn't high, she broke five bones and hopped into intake on her own after betting tased she was 140 lbs. I pinched a six foot five bodybuilder's neck and he flopped to the ground and begged me to stop.

Please tell me how you are genetically stronger than women, and that culture hasn't programmed you to think that way again please. I do enjoy a good laugh.

 You two are just arguing nature vs. nurture. That argument won't be resolved anytime soon.

That is true, I guess it is stupid of me to continue to enter into debate with stubborn people.

I believe nature and nurture both play a role in this, but I guess pigheadedness has white washed the entire meaning.

Anyway back to the topic. I myself enjoy seeing the roles reversed.
