This was a piece of cake.......Now we will once again in November reestablich the fact that marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman in one of the most liberal states in the union..............

PS: over 200,000 people on the referendum.............

Look at all this big government, leftist nonsense. You crazy lefties, always trying to put government into our personal lives. When will you learn to just let people make their own decisions and mind your own business? Guess I'll never understand leftists.

There efforts are most likely futile considering

Yes, my left wing friend, you'd certainly be happy with increasing government force into our personal lives and taking away decisions from the individual and putting it in the hands of state. As I said, I don't know if I can fully understand you leftists.

NP, you lost the war a long time ago. The fact that we are debating about same sex marriage today and not whether gays should be imprisoned or executed shows the progress this country has made.

Kinda like this:

It won't matter either way, since this is all going to be decided by the Supreme Court, anyway.

So they got 200,000 religious nuts to sign a petititon. This thing was pushed by every fundamentalist loony church in the state. You could get the same group of Neanderthals to sign a petition claiming the earth was 10,000 years old. This referendum will get clobbered by the voters in November. Take it to the bank.

Your medieval homophobic bigotted position on this issue is doomed to failure.

Actually, I expect that the referendum will pass. Doesn't really bother me all that much though given that the state already has legally recognized unions that are as close to marriage as the state can get. And NP can't bitch about those because they were affirmed by a referendum.

And if the referendum passes it will likely be overturned by a court ruling.

At this point the best bet is for a constitutional amendment stating that marriage is between one man and one woman....but in order for this to have any chance at passing, this amendment has to state that civil unions would be legal for same-sex couples.

I personally am not in favor of civil unions for same-sex couples, but I see the reality of the situation.

Of course there are people against it however, it wont stand come election. I know you're excited Navy, but you should know this. We are far too liberal to not allow gay marriage.
And really, the first Marijuana initiative had well over 300k signatures, getting it on the ballot, but it was voted down anyway....so yeah. lol.

I think they will learn from how activist judges in California have defied the will of the people and make this referendum bullet proof....

The majority cannot vote away the rights of the minority. There's that whole pesky constitution thing in the way of that.

We can go back to that discussion if you prefer.

NP is a big government leftist, he doesn't understand this point.

Do you comprehend bullet proof my left wing friend......the only thing that would ever defeat this referendum is the SCOTUS and that ain't happening....

.....SCOTUS and that ain't happening....

Actually there is a good chance that SCOTUS will rule in favor of SSM. There have already been two supreme court cases where they based their rulings on the premise that marriage is a fundemental right. SCOTUS will look at that. And with SCOTUS's habit of upholding previous supreme court rulings...well...lets just say all these anti-SSM bans are not going to last.

So in the end I don't care which way a state rules...referendum or not. SCOTUS will have the last say and chances are good that SCOTUS will rule in favor of SSM.

Read my lips 5-4 upholding traditional marriage........

Read my lips 5-4 upholding traditional marriage........

Loving v Virginia and Zablocki v Redhail.

You can wish it all that you want. But reality shows that the chances of SCOTUS striking down state laws banning SSM are more likely than keeping your "traditional marriage". Which isn't even "traditional" btw. If it was then marriages would still be forced arranged marriages. And there would be no inter-racial marriages.
