I figured with all the threads on gay marriage and what politicians say, it might help to acknowledge there are other facets to the gay rights struggle. This especially affects youngsters who are often dragged to these places against their will.

So what do you think, good or bad idea? If you actually approve of reparative therapy, how far should it be allowed to go? If against, Would you favor a federal law to this end or is it another states' rights issue? Is sending your kid to these places child abuse?

Yeah, forgot to mention in the title, the ban is *for minors only* and adults would have to sign a waiver. Also it would be the 1st state to do this.

These practices should be illegal.

Being gay is not a choice, this whole "Pray Away The Gay" stuff is a load of nonsense.

I am completely for this. A minor should not be able to go through conversion therapy. An adult can do what they want however.

To answer your questions yes there should be a federal law like this one and while It may not exactly be child abuse it is certainly wrong to send your child to conversion therapy.

If it is for minors only I am all for the the ban. Adults should be allowed to do pretty much whatever dumb ass thing they want to do to themselves.

Of course it's for minors, you think adults would go for this crap? These internment camps have been the cause of many suicides by children who are told they are sick and weak. They can't change so they take the only way out. And to think that GWB got the Govt. to pay people with our tax dollars to do this to children?

But seriously, "Pray the gay away" is something that 100 years from now, people will look back and talk about how intolerable and extreme it was. I hope it will be seen in the same light we see lynchings now a days.

It doesn't work. Like said above, you don't chose to be gay. You are born with a different mind set, and it is in no way, shape, or form a bad thing. My own opinion is that we are all born Bi-Sexual, but media and societal expectations and opinions shape us to believe differently.

Sounds like they're banning it for minors. Sounds like a good idea to me. A lot of people come out of this "therapy" in extremely psychologically screwed up states. It can do a lot of damage, and at the very least this will prevent parents from forcing their kids into it.

Some adults do. It can be pretty amazing the kind of **** that family and friends can pile on gay people just for being gay. This also gives a fairly good explanation why those who do gay conversion therapy can claim the occasional success. Whether they are actually successful or not is debatable.

About 99% of homosexuals go through conversion therapy. It's called being raised by heteronormative parents.
