Gaming Laptop

You're kinda pigeon holing yourself by sticking with a laptop.
$900 won't get you much of a gaming laptop that you could with a desktop, imo.

Pretty much. Youll have to cough up at least 1500 dollars or more for a laptop that has the same power as say a 1000 buck PC.

If you can scavenge parts off an old pc and use a mid range vid card ($100ish), you can do it for a lot cheaper.
Mine was a bit more because I wanted a bench pc case.

The Garden Tractor Analogy:

I think laptops are a boon to people who have to be on the move.
For those of us whose livelihoods are more earth bound, a laptop offers nothing and detracts much.
And if your livelihood involves crunching a lot of data very quickly for long periods of time, a laptop is an expensive and annoying liability.
Gaming is said to be somewhat similar to VFX and film post production, and since my livelihood centers around that I can only speak as an editor.
I have to use the big iron and here's why.

Think of a tractor. If you're a suburban homeowner a typical garden tractor, with its light weight, small size and single cylinder 5HP Briggs and Stratton engine is ideal.
You can park it out back or in the garage, it doesn't take up much space and it's easy to operate.

If you've watched ESPN or YouTube, you know some crazy people soup up garden tractors for fun racing events.
I've even seen a garden tractor with a 200 HP automotive engine in it, doing 80 MPH on dirt.
So there's no question that it's possible to make a garden tractor powerful and fast!

If on the other hand, you are a farmer, you know that no matter how powerful that garden tractor is, it is still going to get stuck in the mud out on
"The Back Forty Acres". Farmers depend upon the giant seven ton 4WD tractors with the five foot tall implement tires for a reason.

Hence my theory that a laptop is a lot like a garden tractor but if you're serious about crunching and encoding tons of very dense data very quickly, you
need The Big Iron, a desktop workstation.

ASUS ROG are good laptops though. Alienware is always overpriced.

Just a update. I was able to increase my budget and with a bit of persuasion, I was able to invest into a gaming desktop and just a notebook for school. I would like to thank those who gave me good advice and pointed me in a good direction. I appreciate it guys. :)

I would like to get a gaming laptop for mobility purposes so desktops are out of the question until I get my own place. It will also be used for school work and Internet browsing etc. So, I would like to know what gaming laptops under $900 that can run most emulator games close to full speed like phantasy star online and play games like Diablo 3 and league of legends at least on high settings. Another thing is that I want it to last at least 3 years if I'm taking care of it correctly.

Any good brands guys?

Thanks!

Go to Prostar they use Clevo and other chassis and I have had good luck with them and their prices generally are better than most everyone else so you get bang for your buck. Best Gaming Computer | Best Gaming Laptop | Cheap Gaming Laptop Computers | Gaming Notebook | Pro-Star.com

I don't think you can get a good gaming laptop for under $1k. When I was looking, my priority was to have a 1080P screen. Last year, I ended up buying the MSI Leopard GP70. Set me back $1,050. When I looked a few months later, they were $1,200. It came with 8 GB ram which I expanded to 16 GB. Has the i7-4720HQ and Geforce 950M graphics.

What a sweet beast! MSI was selling gaming laptops for up to and past $2k. I was tempted to buy the $1,900 Dragon.
