Former Googleers unveil Cuil, a new search engine | U.S. | Reuters
MENLO PARK, California (Reuters) - A start-up led by former star Google engineers on Sunday unveiled a new Web search service that aims to outdo the Internet search leader in size, but faces an uphill battle changing Web surfing habits.
Cuil Inc (pronounced "cool") is offering a new search service at
Cuil that the company claims can index, faster and more cheaply, a far larger portion of the Web than Google, which boasts the largest online index.<snip>
Okay, so I read this and of course go straight to the site to search for my sites. First I tried keywords, no luck. So I search the exact addresses, still no luck. So how good could it be. Granted one site of mine has only been online a few months, but the other sites I'm involved with have been online over a year and are searchable on Google/Yahoo (though not some of the others like dogpile and ask). I wonder if like Google and Yahoo, you have to register with Cuil. If so, they sure don't seem to have a link to accomplish this. As a matter of fact their "about us" page goes to an error page.
What do y'all think. Do we need another search engine? Its getting like the phone books, of which I have no less than 4 different brands delivered to my door each year. None are really any better than any other, and having so many just means more places that vendors have to advertise in.
