Christ, READ THE ARTICLE!!! Its RENEWABLE NOW, get USED TO IT.

Sorry, I should have clarified my statement. I should have said "renewable sources of oil in quantities large enough to have even the slightest impact on oil use". Also, the amount of biomass needed makes this unable to actually produce oil in the quantities needed. I won't speculate about your motives, but considering the technical benefits of electric cars, I'd wonder why you wouldn't hope to replace gas with electricity.

getting pretty sick of these "Oil & the US is the source of all the worlds ills"
|
Right. It should be "Oil in the source of the US's ills". Oil is a major factor in our current foreign policy problems and economic problems.

wtf makes any of you think this one single invention, will be the only thing used

Because its the best thing to use? Gas was the best thing to use, so we ran all our cars on it. Now, we need to move onto something better.

wtf makes any of you think we are only going to use one source in the near future

We don't have to use one source, but using a standardized fuel for cars in a good idea. The best part about electricity is that it comes from multiple places, but its all the same fuel.

seems to me presently we are using big bad oil, wind, hydroelectric, solar, nuclear
|
Ideally, we should be using less oil and nuclear because of the long term fuel costs, political costs and environmental costs.

why arent we just using one?
the way you guys freak out you think we are going to find a single solution to teh entire worlds energy source, if only we send the price of oil/gas through the roof
freaking people are starting to sound like the lunatics in the abortion debates

I can only speak for myself, but wanting to get rid of oil hardly entails freaking out. Its simply not the ideal fuel source in this day and age. The economic, political and environmental cost is simply higher than its alternatives. Oil was great to enable the kind of technology and economy we needed to get this far, but its time as our primary fuel source needs to end.
