This is not a solution to the worlds oil needs. Maybe it can provide the oil to solve our squeaky door problems and bicycle chains.
But this a solution to our energy needs? Yeah....sure.

Yeah its renewable, thats great. Will it solve the human race's increasing need for energy. No. You do know how little bugs secrete right?

If our main problem was squeaky doors and bicycle chains, then i would be estatic about it, but its not, its our energy needs.

Could it solve our energy needs? None of us know, it does solve our oil problem though, that for sure. If we could have whole 10,000+ acre farms and labratories of these bugs excreting all the oil we want, hell yea.

Well, I was wondering what we should do with Chicago. So how many cities around Chicago size would we need for the waste pyramid?

How much agricultural waste do they need in one week to feed the "1000-litre fermenting machine" to produce "one barrel a week?"

Combine this with the work at, I believe, the University of Maryland that has created Algae to secrete oil and we might be able to ween ourselves off of foreign oil.

Hopefully, both will be commercially viable within the next 5 years.

If it's more effiicient and it's not the only development going on, I see no probelms with it. Looks like in theory it could save time (money), and reduce pollution probably (from refineries), in theory make gas production more accessible to start-ups, increase our knowledge of commercialization of micro-organisms on a larger scale, etc.

It won't make our cards less polluting, so I still prefer to eventually have clean input AND output, but it's a step in the right direction.

Not to mention, make those folks filthy rich, good for them if they pull it off.

It doesn't matter if tomorrow there came out with a renewable source that pumped out 10,000 barrels of oil a day. PeteEU would states its no use, oil is done for, we gotta move on, there's no reason to continue research on it, nothing possible can come from it, run and flee, oil is the devil, the devil!

Oil is not a good way to power automobiles compared to electricity. Its much less efficient and much more polluting. Although electric vehicles cannot yet match combustion engines today, it should be the eventual goal to get rid of fossil fuels. There is no renewable source of oil today, and its very likely we will run out of oil in the future. Oil producing bacteria are quite useful, but they do not change the need to power our cars with something else.
