We can in Europe (various countries) get 100 mbit for 1/4 of the price and the throw free local (national) calls in and even some have free tv. Guess there is no competition in the US among ISPs.. that would explain it.. reginoal or local monopolies with cartel like pricing.. |

Current Mood: | Re: Qwest introduces 20 megabit DSL in some areas U.S. ISPs are highly corrupt for the most part. They use government built infrastructure and have government granted monopolies. However, they try and claim "free market" to try and avoid regulation. They also sell unlimited service but cut off people who go over an unspecified limit. The pipes are highly oversold and few companies have invested much to build new higher speed ones.

Actually your companies are dictated to by the state in these areas. Over here the business sector is much less regulated. Most Americans like less regulation versus European style statism and all that follows in its wake. Viva la difference, non? |

Try the OECD site, has nice statistics on broadband usuage, speed and prices and the US is hardly "the best" there. |

Broadband requires economic planning and, unless its building missiles smarter than the average joe, the American system cannot be relied on

Who said anything about "best"? You were bitching about the price. I don't know why. You aren't going to be subscribing to to it. I suppose it was just more of your gratuitous bashing. I simply responded to say that the price was fair and hardly a burden to the average America who spends twice as much on fast food every month. If someone wants it they can afford it. In the meantime the companies get to make some money. As an investor I like both ends of the deal. |
