You may be thinking of compacted graphite iron. My block is half CGI and half aluminum. The top half if CGI and at the bottom of the stroke below the last ring the CGI ends and the aluminum bottom half is bolted on. Same as the 3.5 in the GT.
Yes, that is what i mean by pressed graphite. It's stronger and lighter weight than conventional cast iron.
Engine blocks had been cast iron, until they added aluminum. Now they are using magnesium and graphite to make the materials even lighter.
And the block, itself, is pressed graphite. The block is attached to an aluminum frame and an aluminum head.
