NASA to study a space rock that could hit Earth

They do say that deadlines and consequences bring out the best in people and organizations.

NASA screws up and sends the asteroid on an Earth collision course to Earth.
NASA, under a serious gun now, invents an asteroid defense system, which wards off the asteroid, as well as all the others that come our way.

Yeaaahhh! Could be a movie script.
Sounds cool, except that reality and movies do not always have the same outcome.

Yeah, I was joking.

Really? And I thought you and I were have a serious discussion. Do you think asteroids have hot babes flying them, fun to consider.

Blasphemy!!!

Movies are always accurate.

Now if you excuse me...I am going to practise/indulge shrimp catching, running, ping pong playing and love/lust for my very purdy, blonde female friend - because one day I want to be very rich and famous and married to her, respectively.

Life is DEFINITELY like a box of chocolates.

;)

LOL. Yeah, the babes on the asteroids are really hot, but they have brains in their helmets which pop when this certain country music is played.

'I know...just say we fear it might strike the Earth and kill everyone...they will give us all the money we need then.'

Yeah. It's all a big conspiracy.

:doh

NASA is to launch a space probe to investigate a huge asteroid it fears could one day hit Earth.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Let's see what this thing is made of and how we can get rid of it if it actually does start on a collision course.

Let's find a way wrangle it into a safe location and start using it as an off-Earth research site. Stick it in the L1 Lagrange Point so that it has a stable location that's far enough from Earth to be safe and close enough to be useful.

We ought to do that anyway, even if it's not on a collision course. It could be a valuable research tool, and who knows what sorts of minerals it might contain.

Certainly calls for a base with a couple of rocket engines.

Follow the asteroid with a rotating cylinder so you can live in one gravity most of the time we need a fleet of these now.

Rooms can lie beneath the one gravity cylinder edge.

Small, like forty of sixty-four feet in diameter.

Melt rock with lenses for your asteroid base and have several mining, shuttle and re-entry vehicles.
