Will human truly unite to explore the universe?

Like the UN?

UN is weak as ****.

I've always held the belief that there is only one situation where humanity may come together. That situation is a non-man-made event/party (aliens, assuming they even exist) that threatens to make humanity extinct. I don't believe anything else will ever unite humanity.

How about the general threat of not having money then?

Example: Recently one of the possible candidate to go to Mars said the vehicle is being designed to allow the astronauts to stand on a platform so they will step on the surface at the same time. This will avoid any argument about which nationality was first. Space exploration could get very tricky in that should one country land on a planet like Mars then politics will eventually enter in like well what part of this geography belongs to what country. Then there is the profit motive should they mine for precious minerals and know more than anything mining will be upmost in importance in space exploration. What set of laws or rules will apply to which country will get what. In other words as we achieve near miracle scientific achievement good old fashion politics will raise its angry head.

NASA is great in the space research while many countries lag behind. The European Union and China are catching up but are still way behind. Is it necessary and feasible to integrate all the institutions into one?

Humans can hardly unite to figure out which toppings they want on their pizza

I dont get what youre trying to say.

That is because you are rich LOL!

No, but seriously.

Lack of money = lack of access. If all people have this challenge/threat, it may bring about the unification mentioned?

The heathens who put pineapple on pizza should be lined up against the wall and shot.

I understand. Selfishness will always stand in the way of genuine collaboration

Impossible.

Money doesn't get destroyed, wealth simply gets transferred from nation to nation.

Transactions aren't destructions.

So the threat always remains = and people always remain united VS the enemy is destroyed = people no longer need to remain united.

I actually think we can make more progress by keeping them separate and fostering competition (preferably of the friendly sort).

What the hell are you talking about? I just told you that the threat doesn't remain on a global level.

Countries compete with each other to have the most wealth transferred to themselves, that doesn't sound like global human unity to me.

When there are spies, you don't foster friendly competition but deepening distrust and retaliation

We will probably remain relatively factional as we begin to spread our interests (and selves) into space, and compete there as we do on Earth.

The most unity I see in the foreseeable future would be large scale multinational coalitions of nations with lots of mutual self-interest... like the ESA, NATO, etc.

"World Unity" isn't happening anytime soon. First we'd need to be able to communicate easily... instant and fluent translation via handheld device may not be far off... then we'd need enough interaction throughout most of the planet that a common culture developed over several generations... that's going to take much cheaper intercontinental transportation and communications.

I wouldn't hold my breath, in other words.

By doing so the wealth transfers from nation to nation. Only one country usually does not remains gathering wealth for themselves forever. It is not static.

Anyway, it is just speculation. No need to warm up over this.

We enjoy killing each other too much to ever quit, unite and live as one united Earth people. Our differences are too great between peoples for this to happen.

EXAMPLE: Pork is the number 1 meat in China. Do you ever think they will give it up for the Moslem world? Pigs reproduce very fast and are quite yummy.

Can anyone reading this live in a world without BACON?

However, GOAT is also quite delicious. I have travelled to 27 countries so far and only from my limited experience I can see GOAT, CHICKEN, SQUID, and PIG being the most universally used meats in the world.

Maybe we can use food as a way of getting together. I understand there is a group doing just that.

When "artificial intelligence" takes over...and artificial intelligence probably will eventually take over...the problem will be solved.

Humans will build a better life form than any of the gods did. They will build a life form with a built-in propensity to get along and "prosper" with each other...which should include explorations of places now inaccessible.

AI should be the next stage of evolution for homo sapiens...and it will be a welcome stage.
