I wish everyone who reads this a very Merry Christmas. Why do I say that, even to non-believers? Because I'm a Christian - born and raised - and I've always said that around this time of year. That is what I believe - to wish everyone whom crosses my path this time of year a Merry Christmas and mean it from the bottom of my heart. Now, whether the person chooses to receive my gift is their business - my beliefs tell me simply to give and not expect anything in return.

To me, Christmas is even more than just the celebration of Jesus' birth. It is also about celebrating (or re-affirming) the birth of something inside each and everyone of us. For me, that something is pure and complete unconditional love for everyone and everything around me. In other words, I try (TRY) to be Christ like and walk it, not just pay lip service.

So I emphasize once more - Merry Christmas to you, the reader of this post. May you also find peace and happiness - as well as the priceless love of God that I've found.

From my experience, there is no greater gift.

As an atheist, I say merry Christmas because I want people to have a merry Christmas.

there's literally no need to explain yourself on the matter,.. just do what you do and don't worry about how other people receive your wishes.

Thanks for the offer, :)

May us atheists cherry pick what to take from this? I mean the celebrating the unconditional love inside us, the deep introspect, peace, and happiness seem mighty fine? ;)

Also, is now the time when you guys celebrate Christmas officially? Can I wish some believers in UK marry Christmas now too? Was this not in the 25th of December or so?

How about now?

Merry Christmas everyone. I have loved Christmas for as far back as I can remember. The Visiting with grandparents and seeing all my family along with opening presents I thought was the best feeling in the world. Then as I got older I found out even more joy could be had making children happy. Even if you do not believe in the religious part do not miss out on the love and joy that can come from the celebration. Every year it only gets better as this holiday evolves. Hopefully one day you will know the the feeling of tears of joy. You only get so many in a lifetime. Do not waste them or let them pass you by.

Plus, the origins of Santa and the tree predate Christianity and are considered to be pagan, right?

Yes, Xmas was a pagan holiday ...something to do with celebrating the winter solstice and Christians replaced it with the birth of Jesus. Some theologians think the real Jesus was born in the spring.

Not sure, but I think Santa originated in ancient Turkey. But in the US the "Coca Cola Santa" is what most people are familiar with.

Santa works for Coca Cola? How dare you? So Pepsi drinkers get a lump of coal?

nice post

and i couldnt agree more

christmas is a time for family....a time for loved ones to get together to share in good times, and bad

there is great joy in watching a child's face light up listening to a grandparent tell a christmas carol

or having the family sit around the piano sing a few christmas carols

sure....the gifts, the tree, and lights and decorations all add to the the mix

but it wouldnt be christmas without the family....

this year as we do every year, we will "adopt" a junior enlisted from one of the local bases to join us for christmas day

just a small thing to try and make their life a little better so far away from their home

wishing all of you and yours, a very merry christmas, and a very safe holiday season

and hoping st nick will be kind to all of you....

I read somewhere that "Santa" originated from northern Europe somewhere. People were being stoned with mushrooms and started imagining someone that later came to be called as Santa.

Yes commercialism.

Good that it maintains a pagan belief, but whether it is good or bad that it also promotes a product comes down to people's taste of Coca Cola. I do not like the taste.
