People who care about what's "cool" are generally not those I'd consider to be thoughtful, valuable members of society.Hello,
In American society at least it is not "cool" in some corners to idolize God out of fear of "offending" some people. But there is no problem to idolize entertainers--movie stars, singers, athletes many of whom are strung out on drugs and alcohol or lead questionable lives. Why is that?
I think most thoughtful people think it's stupid to idolize drug- or drama-addicted celebrities, but that it's fine to idolize people who do good for society. That may include deities -- but it's worth pointing out that some deities are no better for society than drug- and drama-addicted celebrities.
