then for me, you would need to define devout please...because to me the profession of Christianity does not confer perfectionism...lack of perfection leads to making errors and bad choices or giving in to what one knows is not right...

therefore abuse is just another error which a human can commit repeatedly but yet can still be helped to see the error of their ways and may perhaps change

I would say it is something a devout Christian with psychological problems could indeed do. They may even use god to justify their behaviour because in their mind they may be "helping" to keep the abused from making choices which would in their mind lead to devil like behaviour.

excellent point. My husband was in a family of devout Christians, their devoutness was the cause of them severing all relationship with their son. Other "devout" Christians have the nerve to call this love.

Devout seems to mean different things to different people and you have devoteness to religion which isn't being devout to God. Being devout to beliefs is being devout to yourself.

This term devout just seems to be a term that defines how much more one person thinks they are right or more commonly how wrong they think others are.
 
Add the movie to this list God is not Dead. just picked it up today it is an excelent movie. i recommend it to anyone.

Other than the bearded freakshow reality television personalities in it it looks good.

I don't know why that bothers me, I have nothing against their family. I just think a show about how weird they are isn't really relevant to the theme of the movie.

they have a very small part in the whole thing. maybe 2 minutes of screen time.
they kinda are relevant but kinda not. it is wierd how they were worked into the movie.

this is a very christian movie though. i enjoyed it.

sick of the garbage that comes out of hollywood anymore.

what stinks more is that i have had to much coffee today and i can't sleep now.

I watched the trailer and out seems like an excellent movie. I was thinking the circus clowns wouldn't be in it much, a movie about them. would only appeal to a select audience. But I think it's great when people stand up for what they believe. It seems like the protagonist is quite reflective. As far as movies recently, I haven't found much of them to be interesting.

But God's not dead seems like a good one. I havegone toe to toe with professors that are used to students eating from their hand or paying little attention to them. I watched the trailer. And it seems like a good movie. I saw it in red box, I just never really felt interest in it thinking it was Hollywood crap.

If you like those kind of movies check out fireproof, flywheel, Facing the Giants, and Couragous.

no the people that did the movie did an excellent job. I love the fact that the student uses athiests own arguments and other scientists and philosphers to backup this points in his debate.

Indeed devout would not mean perfection - no one is perfect. I would define it as being God-fearing,
someone who's committed and dedicated to his faith, to do what is right in the eyes of God.


Psychological problems such as that you've mentioned does not choose any beliefs, or any ideologies.


A devout Christian spouse would not abandon his/her sick spouse - whether it be physical or mental illness.
That's part of the vow, "for better or worse." He/she would seek help for the sick spouse.

As for an erring spouse, there are numerous varying counselling available (depending on the problem), and usually the Pastor comes to give counsel, too.

Christian or not, if a person is being abused, it is imperative that he/she remove himself/herself (and the children) from that environment while the erring spouse seeks help. There is nothing in the Bible that says anything against separation under these circumstances.

I love Courageous!

To me, that part how the dad dealt with the death of his daughter is so inspiring and uplifting that I'll take that attitude dealing with the loss of a loved one.
