The Devil does not want people to follow Christ, so he tempts them, and this is not old-fashioned rhetoric because “the Devil is here, even in the 21st century” and we must learn “how to fight against Satan,” said Pope Francis....

Pope Francis:

Is he?

yes?

no?

maybe so?

If there is a devil, I would be inclined to say that yes, he is most definitely here.

I am beginning to think that a devil is the only plausible explanation for the rampant insanity I am seeing in the world these days.

I agree with Lizzie - I used to only believe in stupidity (read: Thoreau) and thought good and evil didn't really exist....

But I can't deny it anymore - a few life experiences have changed my mind. To me, there is in fact a devil and furthermore - good doesn't always win. To me, that's only in the movies... ;)

No, but then I don't believe in higher powers that are self-absorbed with us. My belief is that there is a higher power or powers but that they aren't concerned with us. Much like a person doesn't give too much thought to a mosquito in a far away pond.

that would depend on the time frame I suppose...;)

The devil is a plausible explanation but overpopulation in a technologically advanced world of 24/7 media needing to sell advertising isn't?

When are you people going to grow up?

I think the devil is the least of our worries. The devil's been around for a long long time and we've gotten by fine anyway.

So that's a yes but don't worry about him?

could you be confusing the effect as a cause?

You realize that the pond, the mosquito, and you are one and the same, right?

Well I don't literally believe there is a physical devil meandering about, but I consider the devil a symbol of all the evil in the world, religious or not. And in that case, yeah, we've got some more immediate problems than trying to tackle all evil in the world.

In the grand scheme of things yes, you are correct. And I am a very happy person knowing that. Every person, every animal, every insect is a part of life.

That's why it's almost like a vanity thing to me in a way, that in the bible people have to say "we are made in gods image" . To me it is weird that people can't accept the idea that they are a mosquito in the grand scheme of things and not in gods image.

Maybe the "immediate problems" are the expression of evil in the world.

Cartoon-ish depictions aside, the Devil, a fallen angel, would be pure spirit. (In Abrahamic tradition) He never was a physical entity. Your position is he's metaphorical is what I'm gathering though, correct?

It seem all the evil in the world is exactly what we should be trying to tackle.

I would hope people could see God in a mosquito...

That doesn't really make sense in relation to my post.

Does lining them up help? As I read it it makes perfect sense.

Probably because they have an awareness of their mortality, while the mosquito does not.

Perhaps you should read it more closely? My point was neither cause nor effect, but rather explanation. That's why your post didn't make sense.

I see where periodically you have to further explain your posts as apparently they convey more meaning to you than others.

The "Devil is in the details."

Yes, I find too many people on the forum only read what they want and not what actually exists. It's not exactly a surprise on a political forum.

It's surely a disappointment, though.
