U.N. Says that the Vatican must immediately remove child abusers

The Vatican will always protect their child molesters.

Wonder how much pressure they are willing to test themselves for the ill bond between the co-workers. Would an international embargo on the Vatican do any difference I wonder. How about freezing assets?

Perhaps due to this limited power of UN that the requirements are only to remove (i.e., fire) pedo's from religious sites. I searched in the source for "prison" and "jail" and did not find any.

Since they are criminals well then they should be put in jail with the rest of the criminals. This should be done knowing ahead of time how frowned upon pedophiles are among the criminal community.

I cannot find the movie where a pedo priest was imprisoned and an inmate strangles him to death saying "You like ****ing young boys do you! You like ****ing young boys do you!" I think it is a 90s film, it is in the end of the movie, but I cannot remember the actors nor the title.

The priest created a good network in the church community and thought that he would get protection from them and get away even with boy sodomization. It did not work just as these priests would not be spared neither sooner or later. But while he was abusing his power he would call on a religious student to his office and I remember him using words like "Let's see it shall we!" in that movie. He gets strangled to death from an inmate in the end of that movie then.

Cannot find the link in Youtube. Does anyone remembers the movie and could find the link instead?

Was it about this guy?

The EU contributes 34% of the UN's funding to the US contribution of 22%... you're welcome.

United Nations Official Document

The EU is a collaboration of many States, the USA is a State. I didn't couple the entire funding from the America's into the figure. So try comparing apples to apples. The US is primary funder of the UN. It's headquartered in our country even. You're welcome.

If you look at the figures, per capita spending on the UN is the same, whether you're an American or a European, yet you seem to be claiming you're doing everyone a big favour. It's based in New York because your congress invited it, the UN didn't request it. I'm sure New York has benefitted enormously from being seen as one of the most important cities in the political, as well as economic/financial, world. You're welcome!

Per capita is not the same across the board. There are maximum and minimum and fees are assessed by ability to pay. If it were the same per capita, China and India would be above 22% funding because they have more people that the US. But that's not the case. The US remains the biggest funder of the UN and is the force that backs up most of the UN's threats. Those are just facts.

that's how it should be.

I agree.

I don't believe that Catholic priests should be treated any differently than any other people.

If they break the law, they should get the same punishment.

Why should it be any other way?

The reason why is because unlike schools, boy scouts organisations, or sports clubs, the Church pursued a policy of concealment, rather than reporting abusers to the authorities, they would shuffle them around and obfuscate their crimes. As the self-proclaimed arbiter of morality, better behaviour is to be expected of the Church.

Again, I can only judge the situation that I looked at, which was in Germany. There all of the organizations I mentioned tried to conceal the activities of their employees and members. In one private school this concealment went on for literally decades. At the same time these other organizations were teaching moraliry, clean living and sportmanship; the greater Good.
There was a kerfuffle here and an angry article there. But nothing like the righteous wrath and hysteria that the media and crowd attacked the Catholic Church with. It almost had the quality of a pogrom. This was repeated recently against a bishop who spent more money on a bishopric than the hateful thought appropriate.

The EU does not contribute to the UN, if I remember correctly. Like the members hold the permanent seats and not the EU so also do they pay their dues.

Per capita is not the same across the board.
I didn't say it was, just that between the US and the EU nations it works out evenly per capita. Obviously the poor nations pay less.

The US remains the biggest funder of the UN and is the force that backs up most of the UN's threats. Those are just facts.
The US pays the same per capita as the rest of the developed world, although a bit less than Japan. That's just a fact. Get over yourself.

There's no self to get over, nothing I wrote was incorrect. It's not the same per capita even between "developed" countries, it's similar for the Western nations but not constant. This is because fees are.not.assessed on order of population. The US does pay the most in almost all aspects of UN function.

Sorry but comments like this piss me off and I apologize if it offends anyone. I know the comments come out of ignorance and years of American right wing propaganda against the UN, but it really pisses me off.

so don't blame the un for issues inherent in the UN?

so don't blame the un for issues inherent in the UN?

Sure if you can find anything. Most of the so called issues with the UN the American right loves to bring up, is actually issues with individual members. Take the rape accusations that the US right loves to bring up. Is it the fault of the UN that men from a specific country committed these crimes while on duty for the UN? Is it the fault of the whole US government that American soldiers commit war-crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan? Is it the fault of the whole city of New York government that some of its police beat up an old man?

So again, is it the fault of the UN if it is Russia that is blocking any response in Syria? Is it the fault of the UN if it is China that is blocking any response in the Sudan?

Sure if you can find anything.

It was literally outlined in your post

And the reason those "individual members" can make their issues the UN's issues is because how the UN is structured ...

Which, get this, makes it an issues inherent in the UN

Yes, it's inherent in how the UN is structured

Okay.. so it is the fault of the whole UN structure that Russia is a dick over Syria... gotcha.. screw UNICEF and WHO and all those hard working people.. they are all useless because Russia is a dick.

lol, I love how you always get frantic and basically make things up when you get your card pulled. But no, Pete, pointing to inherent issues in how the UN is structured does not translate to thinking nothing the UN does is good.

Yes, as long as the US, UK, France, China and Russia can agree on it.. else the UN is only slightly better than the US congress.

Oh, please. Let's not compare the UN to congress. If there's any country with more power than the UN, it's the US - there's no debate there. Anyone who disagrees will only look stupid.

Oh?

Have you even read this and countless threads about the UN on these boards or listened to the blowhearted moron GOP politicians on the subject? "Why do we need the UN, lets leave the UN" are common comments.

Whoever pays what is mostly moot. The UN will only ever be a political convenience. The US, for example, only paid the lion's share of its outstanding debt immediately following 9/11, when it suddenly realised it would need everyone else to prosecute its silly and ultimately futile 'WOT'. It's only fair that it should cough up the most, when it's the most invested. Otherwise, it was happy to casually flout a clear UN veto pertaining to Iraq. The invasion was illegal and to my shame, the UK once more sucked American **** instead of going where its loyalties should lie. Still, happily it's the main reason scumbag Blair will always be denied the top spot in the EU. lulz lulz lulz

Every cloud.

essentially yes. Because they are not set up to be able to actually enforce their policies and mandates. They can't really do anything. So this whole Syria thing can be completely FUBARed by Russia being a dick and the UN cannot do anything to fix that. It's inherent to that system, it has no ability to control its own members and no teeth to accomplish its mandates.

Although I understand that some people would have no problem with it, I personally have a problem with the UN telling anyone what they must do.

I agree with this, too. Wholeheartedly. I see the UN as a sham.

The new Pope, (and other denominations) should take the initiative step without the UN (or any other body) giving the directives. After all, it's just the right thing to do.

And that is by design, which is why blaming the UN as an organisation is stupid. Blame the single country or countries that are preventing the UN in doing something.

No country wants an organisation that controls its members and can unilaterally do stuff against members based on the treaty.
