Pope Francis banished a German Roman Catholic prelate known as the "luxury bishop" from his diocese on Wednesday for spending 31 million euros ($43 million) of Church funds on his residence at a time when the pontiff is stressing austerity.

But the pontiff stopped short of dismissing him outright, a step which many German Catholics and the media had called for.

In a highly unusual move, Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst of Limburg was ordered to leave his diocese while an investigation and audit into cost over-runs is held, a Vatican statement said.

The bishop, who met the pope on Monday, "was currently not in a position to carry out his episcopal ministry". It said he should stay outside his diocese "for a period," and that it would be administered in his absence by a vicar-general.....snip~

Pays to work for the Catholic Church.....huh? This Bishop was Stylin and Profylin. In Germany too.....ya mean to tell me. Germany has it like that, now?

Just think if one could get a dollar from every catholic out there. One could retire now until the end of their days. Now this Church official knew how to get him some money. Not like Jesse and Sharptones. Can I get an Amen?

Or any Christian church that I could think of.

It's based on trust.
Especially when we're talking of a church leader. Who would've thought a man representing an apostle of God would be doing that? But that happens.

So yeah, wouldn't it be a ludicrous career for anyone who don't have any moral compass to become a church leader?

Or to be tempted, too.

It's like politicians who got caught with their hands in the cookie jar! How many politicians started out with the sincerity to change a corrupt system - only to fall into it, too? How many accountants pocketed their clients' money?

Just like it pays for a pedophile to work for the church or the school - or anywhere they can have good access to children!

Just like schools or daycares that's unwittingly hired pedophiles, the only fault for these organizations/establishment would be negligence.
Teachers, priests, politicians or any employees/volunteers in all sorts of fields....more serious screening is needed, unless they want to get dragged through the scandal.

Works for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton doesn't it. Both without a Church. But identifying with many. So they say.

Still the Pope shouldn't be allowing this from any in his religion. Which would have to include Vatican City itself. So he did the right thing. Plus if this guy is guilty then kick him out of their clergy and let him live like others.

It's not just the Catholic Church. Just take a look around almost any city and you can see the luxury church's that are built and the homes these "servents of God" live in and the cars they drive. I guess you need a 5 bedroom house, luxury SUV, and a pool to "serve the lord" properly.

Yep.....trips to DC too. Traveling to other states. In the Case of Jesse homes in Chicago and DC. Trips out of the country. Involved into all the Political parties. Same deal for Sharptones too. I would bet they think they give back 10%

How about that Joel Olsteen? Isnt that the Millionaire Preacher.....says God wants you to be Rich?

The best preacher I ever knew personally was when I lived in Denver, Colorado. He lived in a one bedroom apartment in the projects in a not so good part of town with very little furnishings, I asked him why he didn't move some place safer. His response was he felt it put him closer with the people that really needed him. THAT was the definition of someone serving God IMO.

Too many preachers lose sight of what the big picture really is. And while I don't follow Christianity or the bible, I had the upmost respect for that guy and donated quite often to his church.

That is exactly the way Christian ministry is supposed to be like.

No "Amen" here. Sad to see a shepherd fail, but I'm glad the Pope has taken corrective measures. BTW, there is already a thread on this topic.
