This thread was inspired by the Book of Revelations, particularly after I'd read this verse:

Rev 20:4
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

The Bible Study explains that the beheaded witnesses are the martyrs of the Tribulation Period.
The word, "beheaded," sprung out and I couldn't help wondering, what with Islamist troubles all over the world, if Islam rule is part of the Tribulation period?
I posted that query to a Christian forum and one reply gave several verses - which I see as Biblical Prophecies coming true. Very much relevant to the problems in the Middle East!

Psalm 83
A song. A psalm of Asaph.

1 O God, do not remain silent;
do not turn a deaf ear,
do not stand aloof, O God.
2 See how your enemies growl,
how your foes rear their heads.
3 With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,
so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”

5 With one mind they plot together;
they form an alliance against you—
6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
of Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Byblos, Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
8 Even Assyria has joined them
to reinforce Lot’s descendants.

See also Ezekiel 36:1-7; 38:5-6; Daniel 2:40-43, 8:9-12, 8:23-25; Obadiah 1:1-21; Micah 5:5-15;

I've never really pondered and focused on all the Biblical Prophecies, but now my interest in it is whetted.

It is said that unique among all books ever written, the Bible accurately foretells specific events. These prophecies are given in details many years, sometimes even centuries, before they occur.

It is said that specific prophesies are conspicuously absent from the 26 other religious books that claim to be scripture, including major religions such as the Muslim's Qu'ran, the Hindu Vedas, and Buddhist writings.

It is also said that approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors.

So this thread is for the prophecies written in the Bible. I would like to really know and understand them....what better way than to have them discussed in a forum.

It is said, the acid test for identifying a prophet of God is written by Moses ( Deuteronomy 18:21-22).

According to this Bible passage (and others), the prophets of God, as distinct from false prophets (Satan's spokesmen) , are 100 percent accurate in their predictions.

There is no room for error.

Why don't you demonstrate precisely which specific prophecies have been accurate to the letter? You are already off to a bad start, as Muslims most certainly do not worship the beast or put marks upon their foreheads. You have demonstrated little more than prejudice based on the current political situation, a poor position for someone claiming to be guided by divine accuracy.

I asked a question if Islam would play a role in the period of Tribulation. I don't think we are in that period yet.

There are approximately 500 remaining prophecies that reach into the future and may be seen unfolding as days go by.
Yes, politics does play a role in these.

Checking out prophecies on google, I ran across some interesting prophecy videos about the end times.
There's lots of them. One is from the History Channel.

Seven Signs of the Apocalypse Biblical Style

I decided to post the apocalypse video above after I've read an alarming news article.

Russia Warns Obama: Global War Over “Bee Apocalypse” Coming Soon

At the center of this dispute between Russia and the US, this MNRE report says, is the “undisputed evidence” that a class of neuro-active insecticides chemically related to nicotine, known as neonicotinoids, are destroying our planets bee population, and which if left unchecked could destroy our world’s ability to grow enough food to feed its population.

And to how bad the world’s agricultural system has really become due to these genetically modified plants, pesticides and seeds, this report continues, can be seen by the EC’s proposal this past week, following their ban on neonicotinoids, in which they plan to criminalize nearly all seeds and plants not registered with the European Union, and as we can, in part, read:

If you wish to engage in a study of Biblical prophesy, particularly end-times prophecy, I do not recommend a forum of this type as a good place to start.

To begin with, you might wish to read some items written by reputable theologians, like Spurgeon and Matthews. Books written by more recent leading Christians might help also... I'd be more inclined to stick to Graham than to laHaye though.

Bear in mind there is a lot of symbolism in Revelations and Daniel (two of the main sources of eschatology prophecy) that is difficult to decipher with certainty. I'd advise great caution in putting too much stock in those who try to relate specific elements of prophecy to current events, as this is a very difficult endeavor fraught with subjectivity and opportunities for error... not to mention people who are deliberately or carelessly hyperbolic or self-serving in such interpretations.

In particular, I'd be wary of those who purport to teach with excessive certainty... I have more trust in a Biblical scholar who says "this symbology is widely believed to refer to X, but there are also theories that it may refer to Y or Z"... than someone who just says "it means THIS" without any caveats.

Happy studying.

The evidence on neonicotinoids is very much disputed. The "Prophecies" are no more than the drugged ramblings of a bronze-age fakir.

The Catholic Church beheaded many more christian martyres than Muslims ever did.

 Of course they have, the bible has been heavily edited.

Evidence of that?

The evidence points otherwise, the dead sea schrools, the septuagent, and the masoratic text all agree with each other and show extremely high levels of exact copying.

.. Ok ... you're simply begging the qustion here, and I say the prophecies are direct revelations from God, at this point both positions are equally defended :p, it's kind of silly to post this one line nothing statement and not defend it ... on the religious discussion forum no less.

One of the coolest prophecies was the restoration of Israel. I was looking up some verses to illustrate my point and found this site that shares 10 points with respect to Israel's return.

I believe that the restoration of Isreal can give many people confidence that what the Bible says is true.

Here's the site.

Revelation 11:7-10
Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city—which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified. For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth

I once heard an elderly preacher speak on this verse. He was the son a preacher who was also the son of a preacher. He said that when his grandfather used to preacher this passage in his church many years ago when he was only a child he said his grandfather sounded like a "madman"! After all, how in the world could two people on the other side of the world die and then the whole world know about it almost instantly (every tribe, language, nation refused them burial and celebrated thier deaths, after all)?

Of course, with satellite T.V., the internet, etc. it is now possible for two people to die anywhere and the rest of the world know about it almost instantly. Of course, none of this was known when Revelation was written in 90 A.D.

A very long yet detailed article explaining the prophecy.

Daniel’s Prophecy of the Seventy Weeks

https://www.christiancourier.com/articles/14-daniels-prophecy-of-the-seventy-weeks

Here is something I have written in my email drafts that I'll paste.

Messiah ben David and Messiah ben Joseph and the 70 week and 2300 day prophecy in Daniel

There are many Jewish legends and traditions of a latter day messiah ben Joseph, who will precede the messiah ben David. This latter day Joseph was to be a prophet who will be martyred but who will be instrumental in restoring and gathering Israel in the latter days and issue in the messianic kingdom just prior to the messiah ben David(who to Christians would be the Second Coming of Christ).

"A number of interesting traditions surround the death of the Messiah ben Joseph. One holds that after having restored temple worship he would be killed. “Then the time of the last extreme suffering and persecution for Israel will begin, from which escape will be sought by flight into the wilderness.”The Jewish Encyclopedia 1:683. Another mention of this latter day Joseph is in the Dead Sea Scrolls: "In the Judean Desert texts, he appears in 4Q372 (c. 200 BCE) as a suffering righteous Joseph, who cries out to God in his death-throes as ‘My father’, citing Psalms 89 and 22, and predicts that he will arise to do justice and righteousness.[4] The poly-messianic Testimonia text 4Q175 (c. 100 BCE) presents him as a latterday Joshua, together with King Messiah, priest, and prophet figures." Messiah ben Joseph - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interestingly, the last words of Joseph Smith as he was killed by a mob with their faces painted black was: "Oh Lord my God!".

"The 'messiah ben Joseph' traditions also include a prophecy by Joseph’s mother Rachel “that Joseph would be the ancestor of the (Ephraimitic) Messiah, who would arise at the end of days,”along with an interesting variation on the dreams of his youth. According to such accounts ‘‘Joseph dreamed a dream, and he could not refrain from telling it to his brethren.” In this dream he and his brothers were gathering fruit. “Your fruit rotted, but mine remained sound,” Joseph explained. “Your seed will set up dumb images of idols, but they will vanish at the appearance of my descendant, the Messiah of Joseph.” Joseph F. McConkie Isaiah and the Prophets: Inspired Voices from the Old TestamentGinzberg, 5:299; also see Raphael Patai, The Messiah Texts (New York: Avon Books, 1979), 165.

"The etymology of the name Joseph is usually given as ‘‘the Lord addeth” or “increaser.” Though appropriate, such renderings have veiled a richer meaning associated with the name. In Genesis 30:24, where Rachel names her infant son Joseph, the Hebrew text reads “Asaph,” which means “he who gathers,” “he who causes to return,” or perhaps most appropriately, “God gathereth.” Thus the great prophet of the Restoration was given the name that most appropriately describes his divine calling."-Joseph F. McConkie Isaiah and the Prophets: Inspired Voices from the Old Testament

Book of Daniel Ch. 2 . King of Babylon asks Daniel to interpret his dream:

27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, theaastrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
28 But there is a God in heaven that arevealeth bsecrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days.

For complete prophecy see Daniel Ch. 2.

The interpretation:

44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces andconsume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

In a prophecy given to Joseph Smith D&C 65: 1-6

1 Hearken, and lo, a voice as of one sent down from on high, who is mighty and powerful, whose going forth is unto the ends of the earth, yea, whose voice is unto men—Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
2 The keys of the kingdom of God are committed unto man on the earth, and from thence shall the gospel roll forth unto the ends of the earth, as the stone which is cut out of the mountain without hands shall roll forth, until it has filled the whole earth.
3 Yea, a voice crying—Prepare ye the way of the Lord, prepare ye the supper of the Lamb, make ready for the Bridegroom.
4 Pray unto the Lord, call upon his holy name, make known his wonderful works among the people.
5 Call upon the Lord, that his kingdom may go forth upon the earth, that the inhabitants thereof may receive it, and be prepared for the days to come, in the which the Son of Man shall come down in heaven, clothed in the brightness of his glory, to meet the kingdom of God which is set up on the earth.
6 Wherefore, may the kingdom of God go forth, that the kingdom of heaven may come, that thou, O God, mayest be glorified in heaven so on earth, that thine enemies may be subdued; for thine is the honor, power and glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Joseph Smith:
“The ancient prophets declared that in the last days the God of heaven should set up a kingdom which should never be destroyed, nor left to other people; and the very time that was calculated on, this people were struggling to bring it out. …
“I calculate to be one of the instruments of setting up the kingdom of Daniel by the word of the Lord, and I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. … It will not be by sword or gun that this kingdom will roll on: the power of truth is such that all nations will be under the necessity of obeying the Gospel.” (History of the Church, 6:364–65.)

Prophecy in Daniel 8:

13 ¶Then I heard one asaint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Daniel 8:12-13
(Notice the words "latter day" and "saint" used in the Daniel Ch 2 and Ch 8 prophecies.)

Let's look at this prophecy in greater detail.

Transgression of desolation- relates to the desecration of the temple

Ending of the daily sacrifice-the ending of the daily sacrifice at the second temple

The word "host" and "trodden under foot" appear to be related to a covenant people of the Lord, Israel, in a state of apostasy:

"The use of Jehovah of Hosts refers to the covenant God in relationship to His people as their royal king and deliverer. He is the rightful king of Israel because He is the deliverer of Israel.
Notice the first use of this title in I Samuel 1:3:
And this man (Elkanah, the husband of Hannah) went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.
This is a tremendous opening for I Samuel because, as I Samuel 8:7 shows, until the last judge Samuel, Jehovah reigned over Israel as her king:
And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them."

Trodden under foot of men- the term is used in the NT in relation to a covenant people who have broken the covenant, in a state of apostasy, they are no longer a blessed or delight some people, their enemies have power over them.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his
savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good
for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Mathew 5:13)

Sanctuary- is also used for the Biblical tabernacle, as well as the phrase the "tent of meeting". The Hebrew word mishkan implies "dwell", "rest", or "to live in", referring to the "[In-dwelling] Presence of God", the shekhinah, based on the same Hebrew root word as mishkan), that dwelt within this divinely ordained structure." It is speaking of the temple.

Sanctuary cleansed-how was the sanctuary ie tabernacle/temple cleansed?
"In the early morning the high priest, in his robes of office, offered the daily morning sacrifice and performed the ordinary morning rite of dressing the lamps, which was accompanied by an offering of incense . Next in order was the festival sacrifice of a bullock and seven lambs. Then began the peculiar ceremonies of atonement, for which the high priest put on special vestments of linen. With his hands placed on the head of a bullock (contributed from his own means), he made confession of his own sins and of those of his nearer household. The two goats contributed by the people were placed before him, being designated by lot, the one for a sin offering "for the Lord," and the other to be sent away into the wilderness "for Azazel". Once more the high priest made confession over his own bullock, for himself and his wider household—his brother priests. After killing the animal and receiving its blood into a vessel, he took a censer full of live coals from the altar of burnt offering and two handfuls of fine incense into the sacred recess behind the curtain, the Holy of Holies (they only entered this portion of the temple once a year on this date); there he placed the incense on the coals, the cloud of incense enveloping the so-called "mercy-seat", and offered a short prayer. He returned for the vessel containing the blood of the bullock and reentered, sprinkling some of it with his finger eight times between the staves of the Ark. He then left the sacred compartment to kill the people's goat (marked "for the Lord"); with its blood he reentered the Holy of Holies, there to perform the same number of sprinklings in the same place.
Process of Purification.
By these rites the most holy place was rendered free from all impurities attaching to it through the intentional or unintentional entrance of unclean persons into the sanctuary. By sprinkling the bullock's blood and similarly that of the goat eight times against the curtain, the entrance to the Holy of Holies was purified." - Jewish Encyclopedia 1909

The meaning of the prophecy:

13 ¶Then I heard one asaint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
Daniel 8:12-13

Daniel is hearing about the future destruction of the second temple and Israel being scattered and trodden under the foot of man after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 ad.
The question being asked is basically how long will Israel be in this state without the temple. When will the restoration of the covenant with Israel take place. You have to understand the other prophecies in the Bible, especially Isaiah who really stresses that Israel will break their covenants, and the cursings set forth in the covenant for disobedience would take place, and obviously one of the blessings of obedience to the covenant is that the enemies of Israel could have no power over her, as long as she is righteous. That Israel was conquered as a nation is proof that there was an apostasy by the nation. But Isaiah and other prophets also prophecy that in the latter days God would be merciful and remember the covenant He made with their Fathers, and restore all their blessings, prior to the return of Christ.

In the Jewish traditions of the messiah ben Joseph, mentioned in the beginning of this article, there would be a latter day Joseph raised up by the God of Israel, that would be the instrument in bringing the restoration of these blessings, with a return of the temple and the gathering of Israel to the lands of their inheritances.

In the Daniel 8:12-13 prophecy it gives 2300 days until the sanctuary will be cleansed. In Biblical prophecy days are counted as years. What we need is a starting date to add the 2300 years to to find when the "sanctuary will be cleansed". In the next chapter in the Book of Daniel, Daniel also hears a prophecy given in regards to when the Messiah will arrive and it is given as 70 weeks "from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem". In 457 b.c Ezra receives the decree from Artaxerxes to restore and build Jerusalem. 70 weeks equals 490 days which equates to 490 years. If you add 490 years to 457 b.c. you get 34 AD which is a bulls eye for Jesus martydom, or the messiah ben David. If you add 2300 years until the sanctuary is cleansed, and above it was shown the sanctuary was cleansed anciently by the sprinkling of the blood on the temple from the sacrifice of two lambs on the Day of Atonement on the Hebrew calendar, it comes to 1844 AD. The question, is the 70 week prophecy and the 2300 day prophecy, taken from the same beginning date speaking of the messiah ben David and the messiah ben Joseph martydoms in 34 AD and 1844 AD?

On June 27,1844 Joseph and Hyrum, whose name in Hebrew means "my brother is exalted", were martyred. They were killed on 10 Tammuz on the Hebrew Calendar. John Pratt, one of the leading scholars on ancient calendars states in regards to the Day of Atonement on the Hebrew Calendar:
"Currently there are three out of four possible days, which are associated with the four seasons. The official "Day of Atonement" is on the tenth day of the seventh month, Tishri, in the fall. It is a fast day, and the holiest day of the year on the Hebrew Calendar. It has a counterpart in the spring, which is the tenth day of the first month, Nisan. That is the day on which the lamb was to be chosen to be the Passover sacrifice. There is also a corresponding fast day in the winter, being the tenth day of the tenth month. That was the day on which Nebuchadnezzar began his siege of Jerusalem, and the Lord commanded Ezekiel to write it down to remember it (Ezek. 20:1, 2 Kings 25:1, Jer. 52:4). The fourth such day to complete the set of one atonement day for each season would be the tenth day of the fourth month, being 10 Tammuz.

The exact date on the Hebrew calendar that Joseph and Hyrum were martyred! The two lambs were martyred on the Day of Atonement in 1844. Jospeh Smith stated as he was fixing to submit himself to the trumped up charges against him: "I am going like a lamb to the slaughter; but I am calm as a summer's morning. I have a conscience void of offence towards God, and towards all men. I shall die innocent, and it shall yet be said of me. 'He was murdered in cold blood'" (D&C 135:4).

But you may ask wouldn't it have been more perfect if they had been killed on the primary Day of Atonement on the seventh month 10 day instead of the fourth month 10th day. Not when you consider the rest of the prophecy. The fast day associated with the "abomination of desolation" and the ending of the "daily sacrifice" at the temple tends to fall in late June and early July on the date 17 Tammuz in the Hebrew Calendar, better known as Shiva Asar B’Tammuz, which then follows three weeks of mourning for the destruction of the temple. The brothers' martyrdom was in late June the same exact time period on the Gregorian calendar that the fast day falls in. So following the week that Joseph and Hyrum were killed, there would be three weeks of mourning. On a sidenote, the brothers also were martyred on their mother's birthday on the Hebrew calendar.

Joseph's birth date is also interesting. He was born on December 23, 1805. John Pratt explains: "Today's Hebrew calendar requires a few minor corrections, especially in correcting the slow drift of the calendar through the seasons, equivalent to the corrections leading to the adoption of our modern Gregorian calendar which replaced the Julian Calendar. On the Hebrew calendar in use in 1805, the day Sun 22 Dec 1805 was 1 Tebeth. On the Perpetual Hebrew Calendar, which appears to be correct throughout all time, the day Tue 24 Dec 1805 was 1 Tebeth. All indications are that the evening of 23 Dec 1805 began the Hebrew day 1 Tebeth, the precise day of the winter solstice on that calendar." "Joseph Smith's birth may thus symbolize the time when darkness would begin to recede and that the light would return to the earth." It is interesting that his birth and death dates are holy days that "coincide with one of the four seasonal markers on a calendar which God has endorsed."

But what about the temple? The prophecy has to do with the loss of the temple. The prophet Joseph and the Latter Day Saints built a temple to the Lord in Nauvoo, IL. It was still under construction when Joseph and Hyrum were killed. The Latter Day Saints had to abandon it not quite finished a few years later as the persecution got so bad they had to leave in the dead of winter on their exodus into the American wilderness. It later was destroyed by fire. As mentioned a few times in this article, the fast on 17 Tammuz(which is in the fourth month) was the beginning of a three week mourning of the loss of the temple. The Bible states at a future date that date would be a day no longer for mourning but for celebration!

8 ¶And the word of the Lord of hosts came unto me, saying,
19 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
20 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities:
21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts: I will go also.
22 Yea, many apeople and strong nations shall come to seek theLord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord.

In 2002 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints rebuilt the Nauvoo temple and dedicated it on June 27, 2002 at 5pm. This was the date Joseph and Hyrum were martyred on the Gregorian Calendar. It also was 17 Tammuz on the Hebrew calendar, the fast day in the fourth month! No longer mourning the destruction of the temple on that date but the dedication of a new one!

3 All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye. Isaiah 18:3

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us ago up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk
in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

The word Utah is a Hopi word that means "on top of the mountains". In Salt lake City, which literally sits on top of the mountains, there is a temple with gold letters emblazoned on it "The House of the Lord". There is a golden angel on top of the spires blowing a trumpet. Every year thousands of people from all over the world visit temple square in Salt Lake City, the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

There are now 141 operating temples, 13 under construction, and 16 announced temples across the globe.

A few side notes. It is interesting that when the kingdom of God was set up anciently with Israel, there was an exodus from destruction on a journey through the wilderness by a prophet of the Lord to a promise land. They settled by the second largest inland lake of salt in the world(the Lord's covenant people are called the salt of the earth.) They built a temple and made the desert bloom. All of these things also happened with the Mormons. An exodus led by a prophet across the American wilderness to a promise land, settling next to the largest inland lake of salt in the world. Building a temple and making the desert bloom. The exodus motif is repeated in the Book of Mormon. And in the BoM it states there is a reason for this repeated motif, there is symbolism there as an ensign to the nations.

Who made this claim?

Previously in this thread I make the case that Joseph Smith is a perfect fit for the Joseph ben Messiah from Jewish traditions and legends, who tradition has it was to be an anointed prophet in the latter days to gather Israel and restore the blessings to the house of Israel including temple blessings just prior to the arrival of the messiah ben David. LDS scriptures certainly state this is the case. Numerous LDS scriptures point out that Joseph Smith is a direct descendant of the Biblical prophet, and ancient Joseph saw Joseph Smith and prophesied about him and his special mission. I then showed what is imo extremely strong evidence that the 70 week and 2300 days prophecies in Daniel were the Martyrdom dates of the Messiah ben David(Christ) in 34 AD and the Messiah ben Joseph(Joseph Smith) in 1844 AD. When you add that the two brothers were martyred on one of likely only four Day of Atonement on the Hebrew Calendar which ties in perfectly with the "sanctuary cleansed" part of the prophecy and in the time period of late June or early July in which the fast day of the tenth month is held in the Hebrew calendar that begins the three week mourning period for the destruction of the temple in Israel which also ties in to the part of the prophecy "desolation of abomination" and the end of the "daily sacrifice", it's pretty strong evidence imho.

It is interesting to compare Islamic traditions of the Biblical Joseph with what contemporaries stated about Joseph Smith.

Joseph in Islamic traditions:
Joseph was eighteen years old, very handsome and robust, with a gentle temperament. He was respectful, kind and considerate. His brother Benjamin was equally pleasant. Both were from one mother, Rachel. Because of their refined qualities, the father loved the two more than his other children, and would not let them out of his sight. To protect them, he kept them busy with work in the house garden.

In the dark well Joseph managed to find a stone ledge to hold onto. Around him was total darkness and an eerie silence. Fearful thoughts entered his mind: what would happen to him? Where would he find food? Why had his own brothers turned against him? Would his father know of his plight? His father's smile flashed before him recalling the love and affection he had always shown him. Joseph began to pray earnestly, pleading to Allah for salvation. Gradually his fear began to subside. His Creator was testing the young man with a great misfortune in order to infuse in him a spirit of patience and courage. Joseph, surrended himself to the will of his Lord.

All over the Egyptian city the news spread that an unusually handsome, robust young slave was on sale. People gathered by the hundreds at the slave market. some were spectators, others were bidders the elite and the rich, each one craning his neck to view the handsome specimen. the auctioneer had a field day as the bidding went wild, each buyer trying to outbid the other. Eventually, the Aziz, the chief minister of Egypt, outbid all the others and took Joseph to his mansion.

Joseph's handsomeness became the talk of the town. People referred to him as the most attractive man they had ever seen and wrote poetry about him. His face carried immaculate beauty. The purity of his inner soul and his heart showed in his face, increasing his beauty. People from afar came to the city to have a glimpse of him. The prettiest of maidens and the richest of ladiesnursthe to possess him, but not once did he show haughtiness or conceit. he was always humble and polite.

The days passed and Joseph grew. Almighty Allah said:
"And when he (Joseph) attained his full manhood, We gave him wisdom and knowledge (the Prophethood), thus We reward the doers of good. (Ch 12:22)
He was given wisdom in affairs and knowledge of life and its conditions. He as given the art of conversation, captivating those who heard him. He was given nobility and self restraint, which made him an irresistible personality. His master soon knew that Allah had graced him with Joseph. He understood that Joseph was the most honest, straightforward and noble person he had met in his life. Therefore, he put Joseph in charge of his household, honored him, and treated him as a son.

Contemporaries of Joseph Smith

His wife, Emma, wrote: "No painting of him could catch his expression, for his countenance was always changing to match his thoughts and feelings."

Many were the curious glances that I cast at this strange man who dared to call himself a prophet. I saw a tall, well-built form, with the carriage of an Apollo; brown hair, handsome blue eyes, which seemed to dive down to the innermost thoughts with their sharp, penetrating gaze; a striking countenance, and with manners at once majestic yet gentle, dignified yet exceedingly pleasant. -Lydia Knight

Emmeline B. Wells, the general president of the Relief Society from 1910 to 1921: "I testify that he was the greatest man and the greatest prophet and the greatest personage of this generation, the greatest, I feel safe in saying, since the days of the Savior. His majesty in appearance was something wonderful. You would think that he was much taller and much larger even than he was. Perhaps many of you have noticed men who have such a bearing when they rise up and walk. This was the way with the Prophet Joseph. There are no pictures of him extant that I know of, that compare with the beauty and majesty of his presence."

I could not begin to tell you what he was, only this way, he was tall, over six feet; he was a fine, big, noble, beautiful man! He had blue eyes and light hair, and very fine white skin.-Janet James

[September 10, 1843] Now something concerning Old Jo, so called. He is a young looking man of his age, which is near thirty-eight years and one of the finest looking men there is in the country and he does not pretend to be a man without failings and follies. He is a man that you could not help liking as a man, setting aside the religious prejudice which the world has raised against him. He is one of the warmest patriots and friends to his country and laws that you ever heard speak on the subject. Neither is he puffed up with his greatness an many suppose but on the contrary is familiar with any decent man and is ready to talk up any subject that anyone wishes. And I assure you it would make you wonder to hear him talk and see the information which comes out of his mouth and it is not in big words either but that which anyone can understand.-George Taggert
[Joseph Smith] looked and had, the appearance of one that was heaven born while preaching, or as though he had been sent from the heavenly worlds on some divine mission, he was a man of fine form and Stature measuring over six feet in height, he was of a light complexion, his hair was of a flaxen color, he wore no whiskers , his chin was a little tipped, his nose was long and straight, his mouth was rather massive and his upper lip rather long and a little inclined to be thick. He had a large full chest and intelligent eyes and fine limbs; altogether he presented a very formidable appearance, being a man of Gentlemanly bearing
.-James Palmer

Parley P. Pratt described Joseph Smith as “possessing a noble boldness, an independence of character. His manner was easy and familiar, his benevolence unbounded as the ocean. Even his most bitter enemies were generally overcome if he could once get their ears” (Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt, pp. 45–46).

"I have felt to rejoice exceedingly in what I saw of Brother Joseph, for in his public and private career he carried with him the Spirit of the Almighty, and he manifested a greatness of soul which I had never seen in any other man."

William Clayton, an English convert who served as a clerk to Joseph Smith: "The more I am with him, the more I love him; the more I know of him, the more confidence I have in him."

A reporter from a St. Louis newspaper interviewed Joseph Smith and wrote a detailed description of his appearance. He said Joseph was a large man with a broad, muscular chest. He wrote, "The shape of his head is a very oblong oval. . His forehead is white, without a furrow, and notwithstanding the small facial angle, somewhat symmetrical. His hair is quite light and fine-complexion pale-cheeks full-temperament evidently sanguine-lips thin rather than thick. .
"But the Prophet's most remarkable feature is his eye. . The hue is light hazel, and is shaded, and, at times, almost veiled, by the longest, thickest light lashes you ever saw belonging to a man. .
"His voice is low and soft, and his smile, which is frequent, is agreeable."

Emmeline B. Wells: "In the Prophet Joseph Smith, I believed I recognized the great spiritual power that brought joy and comfort to the Saints. . The power of God rested upon him to such a degree that on many occasions he seemed transfigured. His expression was mild and almost childlike in repose; and when addressing the people, who loved him it seemed to adoration, the glory of his countenance was beyond description. At other times the great power of his manner, more than of his voice (which was sublimely eloquent to me), seemed to shake the place on which we stood and penetrate the inmost soul of his hearers, and I am sure that then they would have laid down their lives to defend him. I always listened spell-bound to his every utterance-the chosen of God in this last dispensation."

The first time I ever saw Joseph Smith I recognized him, from a dream I had had. He had such angelic countenance as I never saw before. He was then thirty-seven years of age, of ordinary appearance in dress and manner, a child-like appearance of innocence. His hair was of a light brown, blue eyes and light complexioned. His natural demeanor was quiet, his character and disposition was formed by his life work, he was kind and considerate, taking a personal interest in all his people, considering every one his equal. We were regular in our attendance at the meetings, and was always anxious to hear Brother Joseph.-Jane S. Richards

John D. Lee
Joseph Smith was a most extraordinary man; he was rather large in stature, some six feet two inches in height, well built, prominent and well-developed features, a Roman nose, light chestnut hair, upper lip full and rather protruding, chin broad and square, and eagle eye, and on the whole there was something in his manner and appearance that was bewitching and winning; his countenance was that of a plain, honest man, full of benevolence and philanthropy and void of deceit or hypocrisy. He was resolute and firm of purpose, strong as most men in physical power, and all who saw were forced to admire him, as he then looked and existed

Herbert S. Salisbury
My grandmother, Catherine Smith Salisbury, told me that her brother Joseph was six feet tall, athletic and fair, and loved to wrestle. She said that he was not in the least snobbish, but treated all he met with kindness, consideration and respect. Once when a noted wrestler from New England visited him in Nauvoo, he challenged the wrestler to "take a fall" with him. In the ensuing bout he threw the wrestler three times, and the man then refused to take any more "falls." From what she told me, I think the Prophet must have been as affectionate with his relatives as President George Albert Smith. She said that on her rare visits to Nauvoo the Prophet treated her and her family with great kindness and generosity and sent her home laden with food, money and clothing.

He was a fine looking man, tall and well proportioned, strong and active, with a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair, and very little beard. He had a free and easy manner, not the least affectation, yet he was bold and independent, and very interesting and eloquent in speech-Wandle Mace

John Needham, an early English convert: "Joseph Smith is a great man, a man of principle, a straight forward man; no saintish long-faced fellow, but quite the reverse. Indeed some stumble because he is such a straight forward, plain spoken, cheerful man, but that makes me love him the more."

John M. Bernhisel, a medical doctor who boarded in Joseph and Emma's home in Nauvoo for several months during 1843 and 1844: "Joseph Smith is naturally a man of strong mental powers, and is possessed of much energy and decision of character, great penetration, and a profound knowledge of human nature. He is a man of calm judgment, enlarged views, and is eminently distinguished by his love of justice. He is kind and obliging, generous and benevolent, sociable and cheerful, and is possessed of a mind of a contemplative and reflective character. He is honest, frank, fearless and independent, and as free from dissimulation [false appearances] as any man to be found. . As a religious teacher, as well as a man, he is greatly beloved by this people."

Jesse N. Smith, a cousin of Joseph Smith: "[The Prophet was] incomparably the most God-like man I ever saw. . I know that by nature he was incapable of lying and deceitfulness, possessing the greatest kindness and nobility of character. I felt when in his presence that he could read me through and through. I know he was all that he claimed to be."2

Joseph F. Smith, the sixth President of the Church: "He was brimming over with the noblest and purest of human nature, which often gave vent in innocent amusements-in playing ball, in wrestling with his brothers and scuffling with them, and enjoying himself; he was not like a man with a stake run down his back, and with his face cast in a brazen mold that he could not smile, that he had no joy in his heart. Oh, he was full of joy; he was full of gladness; he was full of love, and of every other noble attribute that makes men great and good, and at the same time simple and innocent, so that he could descend to the lowest condition; and he had power, by the grace of God, to comprehend the purposes of the Almighty too. That was the character of the Prophet Joseph Smith."

Howard Coray, a clerk to Joseph Smith: "I have studied the Gospel as revealed by Joseph Smith and wondered if it were possible for anyone unaided by the Spirit of God to have revealed such a system of salvation and exaltation for man. My conclusion is in the negative. I sat and listened to his preaching at the stand in Nauvoo a great many times when I have been completely carried away with his indescribable eloquence-power of expression-speaking as I have never heard any other man speak."

Joseph L. Robinson, a counselor in a bishopric in Nauvoo: "We have long since believed and verily known that Joseph Smith was a true and humble Prophet of God, but now our eyes do see him, and our ears hear his voice, which is like the voice of the mighty thunders of Heaven, yet his language is meek and instructive, edifying much. But there is a power and majesty that attends his words and preaching that we never beheld in any man before, for he is a mighty Prophet, a holy man of God. He truly had been educated in the things pertaining to the kingdom of God and was highly charged with the Holy Ghost, which was a constant companion."

Parley P. Pratt

President Joseph Smith was in person tall and well built, strong and active, of a light complexion, light hair, blue eyes, very little beard, and of an expression peculiar to himself, on which the eye naturally rested with interest, and was never weary of beholding. His countenance was ever mild, affable, beaming with intelligence and benevolence; mingled with a look of interest and an unconscious smile, or cheerfulness, and entirely free from all restraint or affectation of gravity; and there was something connected with the serene and steady penetrating glance of his eye, as if he would penetrate
the deepest abyss of the human heart, gaze into eternity, penetrate the heavens, and comprehend all worlds.
He possessed a noble boldness and independence of character; his manner was easy and familiar; his rebuke terrible as the lion; his benevolence unbounded as the ocean; his intelligence universal, and his language abounding in original eloquence peculiar to himself- -not polished-not studied-not smoothed and softened by education and refined by art; but flowing forth in its own native simplicity, and profusely abounding in variety of subject and manner. He interested and edified, while, at the same time, he amused and entertained his audience; and none listened to him that were ever weary with his discourse. I have even known him to retain a congregation of willing and anxious listeners for many hours together, in the midst of cold or sunshine, rain or wind, while they were laughing at one moment and weeping the next. Even his most bitter enemies were generally overcome, if he could once get their ears.
I have known him when chained and surrounded with armed murderers and assassins who were heaping upon him every possible insult and abuse, rise up in the majesty of a son of God and rebuke them, in the name of Jesus Christ, till they quailed before him, dropped their weapons, and, on their knees, begged his pardon, and ceased their abuse.
In short, in him the characters of a Daniel and a Cyrus were wonderfully blended. The gifts, wisdom and devotion of a Daniel were united with the boldness, courage, temperance, perseverance and generosity of a Cyrus. And had he been spared a martyr's fate till mature manhood and age, he was certainly endowed with powers and ability to have revolutionized the world in many respects, and to have transmitted to posterity a name associated with more brilliant and glorious acts than has yet fallen to the lot of mortals. As it is, his works will live to endless ages, and unnumbered millions yet unborn will mention his name with honor, as a noble instrument in the hands of God, who, during his short and youthful career, laid the foundation of that kingdom spoken of by Daniel, the prophet, which should break in pieces all other kingdoms and stand forever. 10

Now let's look at the Joseph characteristics again from Islamic sources. They are an absolute direct hit with the latter day Joseph.

A couple of articles that help catch the essence of this man:

Speeches

The Prophet Joseph Smith taught, “Ever keep in exercise the principle of mercy and be ready to forgive a brother on the first intimation of repentance and asking forgiveness. And should we even forgive our brother, or even our enemy, before he repents, and asks forgiveness, our Heavenly Father would be equally merciful to us” (Documentary History of the Church, 3:383).

Laksa,

I don't know much about Mormonism, but based on this info from Wiki (a very long article).....my reply to your claim would be, I don't think so.

Joseph Smith believed in the importance of the Bible[12] and shared the Protestant tradition that the Bible (excluding the Apocrypha) was revealed by God to humanity without error[13] and contained the "fulness of the gospel." Nevertheless, Smith believed the Bible of his era had degenerated from its original form. Smith blamed the Catholic Church for the loss of biblical books and for introducing corruptions and obfuscations in the biblical text.[14] Smith said that the Book of Mormon revealed "plain and precious things that had been taken away" from the Bible.[15] (Smith also completed an unpublished revision of the Bible in 1833,[16] which he said corrected many of these errors.[17]) Ultimately, Smith endowed the Book of Mormon with a status equal to that of the Bible.[18]

Like other Christian primitivists, Smith located the authority of Christianity in correct interpretation of the Bible[25]—although he also maintained (as did the Shakers) that interpretation of the Bible should be guided by new and continuing revelation.[26] Initially, the authority of Smith's faith was based on correct doctrine[27] and his own charismatic claim of prophethood.[28] Then during the early 1830s, Smith added to this authority apostolic succession, represented by apostles and prophets whom Smith said had ordained him.[29]

Late Joseph Smith era

From the mid-1830s to his death in 1844, Joseph Smith introduced ideas and practices which significantly departed from traditional Protestantism. First, Smith pressed Christian perfection beyond Protestant orthodoxy.[30] He followed non-Protestant Christians in rejecting the doctrine of justification by faith alone[31] and moved toward universalism by introducing a hierarchy of three glorious heavens, in which even the wicked had a place.[32] In the late 1830s, Smith introduced baptism for the dead by proxy as a means to allow unredeemed souls to accept salvation in the afterlife,[33] and he also taught that the ordinance of marriage was require to reach the highest level of salvation.[34] Seeking to relate Mormonism with Calvinistic ideas of assured salvation, Smith introduced a second anointing ritual, after which a participant was guaranteed virtually unconditional salvation.[35]

The later Smith also departed from traditional Protestantism in his view of the nature of God and humanity. Eventually Smith reduced the difference between God and man to one of degree. Both God and man were coeternal and uncreated. He taught that humans could progress to an exalted state in which they became coequal with a God who was material, plural, and himself a glorified man existing within time.[36] Smith taught that both God the Father and Jesus were distinct beings with physical bodies. (Only the Holy Spirit was a "personage of Spirit.")[37] Because God had once been a man who had risen to a high position in heaven,[38] humans too could progress to godhood. Such a teaching implied a vast hierarchy of gods who would rule kingdoms of inferior intelligences, and so forth in an eternal hierarchy.[39] Unlike the god of traditional Christianity, the god envisioned by Joseph Smith did not create the eternal spirits of humanity—he only organized them and provided them with a plan to follow in his footsteps.[40] God was God not because he was an ex nihilo creator, but because he had the greatest intelligence

Pioneer Mormonism
After Smith's death, his successor Brigham Young and others built upon Smith's late teachings and introduced even more profound innovations. The resulting religious tradition defined the Mormonism of the Mormon pioneer era in the 19th century. An important part of this pioneer Mormonism is the Adam–God doctrine, which became the most prominent (but not exclusive) theology of 19th-century Mormonism.[42] Young taught that God the Father was Adam, a mortal man resurrected and exalted to godhood.[43] Proponents of this doctrine believed that Father Adam, as the subordinate member of a three-god council, created the earth.[44] Adam was both the common ancestor and the father of all spirits born on the earth.[45] After ascending again to his heavenly throne,[46] Adam returned to physically father Jesus by Mary.[47]

Many of the distinctive elements of 19th century Mormonism, including polygamy and the Adam–God doctrine, were renounced around the turn of the 20th century by the LDS Church.[48] However, these elements have been retained within the small branch of Mormonism known as Mormon fundamentalism.

Mormons believe that God is scrutable[65] and anthropomorphic.[66] In contrast to traditional Christian notions that God is omnipotent and omniscient, modern Mormons regard God as governed by natural law.[67]

You could say John Smith is the fulfillment of one of the biblical prophecies. I will agree to that.

He is one among many false prophets that were prophesied by Jesus, and of whom Christians were repeatedly warned against.

Should you wish to continue to defend Mormonism, kindly create a separate thread for it since it will take this thread out of topic. We can continue the robust discussion there.

"According to the Jewish calendar we are beginning the year 5760 which celebrates the beginning of the world from the creation of Adam. According to modern Rabbinical and many Christian scholars, it has been calculated that this date is inaccurate by 240 years. We are actually beginning the Jewish year 6000, perhaps 6001, which corresponds to the year 2000 on the Gregorian calendar. The actual year is difficult to determine because of when the first century began. Bible chronologists are beginning to conclude that the Biblical year 6001 begins this Rosh Hashanah (September 11, 1999). They have determined that the year 6000-6001 is somewhere in the 1994-2006 time because of the uncertainty of when Yeshua was born. Anywhere from 1-4 BCE The Jewish teachers of Torah believed that just as there are seven days in the creation week so also there are 7000 years between the first day of creation and the last day of redemption. This is derived from the six days of creation equating 6,000 years and a final seven day of 1,000 years, known as the Sabbath Millenium. Maybe this is why Peter's final exhortation about the Lord's coming was (2 Pet 3:8), One day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as one day. I believe there is much truth to this reckoning of time and if so, that would mean we are coming to the end of the 6000 year and are about to enter into the 7,000th or we are already into it. Prophetically, that means we are on the verge of the Messiah's soon coming."

Cal Goldberg, Beth Shechinah, The Feasts of the Lord - Rosh Hashanah: The Akeda and the Binding of Isaac

Somewhere in the 1994-2006 time frame... hmmm. The prophecy also states that the Sabbath Millenium is where the earth rests (recall that God rested on the seventh day).

British Zionists David Davidson and Herbert Aldersmith wrote in 1924 :

"Both systems–Hebrew and Pyramid–relate to a period of six millenaries. Both systems emphasize that the central date of this period forms a definite epoch central to all the chronological periods of God's creation as relating to the application of His Law to mankind. In both cases, again, the dates are the same in relation to modern chronology. The Pyramid, as shown on Plate LXII, Fig. A, represents an initial sacred cycle of 2520 years ending at 6000 A.K.=2001¾ A.D. Another matter established by modern prophecy exposition is that the period of 7 times is defined as having stages of chronological beginnings and corresponding stages of chronological endings. Thus Guinness ('Approaching End of the Age') state:

'The majestic movements of Providence and of history demand time; empires do not rise and fall in a day; and the omniscient God takes note of the comparatively insignificant beginning of a mighty movement as of its climax. . . . Hence the propriety of indicating various dates of rise and fall' (p. 372). Now, if seven times be the appointed duration of the Times of the Gentiles, we may expect to find, after an interval of 2520 years from this Jewish captivity era, a corresponding time of the end, a period of similar decline and fall, overthrow and decadence, of the last form or forms of Gentile ruling power, ushering in the close of the dispensation, the restoration of Israel, and the kingdom of the Messiah the Son of David' (p. 354).'"

- D. Davidson, H. Aldersmith, The Great Pyramid, Its Divine Message, (1924), pp. 364-365, 385.

2001¾ A.D = September of 2001.
