The US. Solid Christian base meaning over 3/4 of the country identify as Christian.
ONLY? thats alot.
How about the message of forgiving your enemies, and praying for those who persecute you? We are all imprisoned, one way or another, in a cell of our own or someone else's making. Those of us that see that for what it is reach out for release from that prison, and many of us find God that way. Others become bitter, angry and resentful. Others become materialistic and selfish.Which is weird, to me, considering how much religion was used to justify enslaving and then oppressing them. The fear of hell and the promise of heaven, based on whether or not a slave was compliant and dutiful, was used to help keep them enslaved. I suppose I can see how they found it a source of comfort in a time when little else was comforting, if someone looks back on the history of how religion was used against black Americans, I don't really see how it could be seen as comforting now.

It's a big number, but an even bigger number is the total of all American adults (do teenagers count?).
320,000 polled / all American adults (& teenagers) equals...?
Certainly not a bad message, but one that is hardly exclusive to any individual religion. And yet its use in oppressing black Americans is unique to Christianity. It seems very strange to search for that message and land upon the very tools of one's enslavement. Why not Islam or Judaism? Those faiths teach the exact same philosophies of forgiveness and divine justice, yet were never used to justify enslaving black Americans.
[h=2]First a disclaimer, I am not trying to start a religious war discussion here. I am merely posting something that I found interesting and I would not have expected to see this result.
I was under the belief religious americans were near or in the minority now.
What I found interesting is that in another thread the other day I mentioned a good friend of mine who believes fully in god the 10 commandments and much of the bible and says emphatically he belongs to no religion nor claims any religion...hes unbranded
But Protestant population is shrinking as "unbranded" religion grows[/h]
PRINCETON, NJ -- Sixty-nine percent of American adults are very or moderately religious, based on self-reports of the importance of religion in their daily lives and attendance at religious services. Within that group, 40% are very religious, meaning that they attend religious services regularly and they say religion is important in their daily lives.
Seven in 10 Americans Are Very or Moderately Religious
70% of people claim they are very or moderately religious and yet we have a 50% divorce rate.

The US is one of the few places left where the pretence of belief can help in business and politics; scarcely any Americans show any sign whatever of having read the New Testament seriously or being prepared to take any action for conscience sake, anywhere, ever; the policies the alleged religious believers support (child-killing in Palestine and the like) are abomination to any Christian or believers in any higher religion. I'd suggest - though I have no windows into other people's souls - that a high proportion of Americans SAY they are religious, when on all the evidence their only god is Mammon - money, money, money, and to hell with everyone else.
Oh another pro american..how cool is that ....
I like most Americans (wheras they seem to hate one another, going around armed to the teeth like mad bandits). Why don't you deal with the issue instead of trying to shoot the messenger?
I can only speak for myself...I prefer to shoot the messenger so they cant annoy me again
Well, yes - that IS what is wrong with the US, certainly. Padded cells are full of such.
Im kidding with you...you need to take a course in American humor Where are you from btw.
As is well known, Americans have no sense of humour, so you can't be, even though I naively supposed you were. 'Many a true word is spoken in jest', said I, and continued to explain the true word. I come from a Better Place, somewhere near Abercwmscwt!
Ohhh ok that splains it...thats where they milk goats then take one for their wife

No - that's where you live, because you believe in lifelong true marriage between equals. Go away and love choirboys and toads, prevert (see Dr Strangelove - whose author I knew, incidentally).
Are the religious getting divorced? Plus, many Christians are OK with divorce. I'm not, but many are.
Ok..hey one more thing...does a goat make a better wife or one of your pigs from the sty...and remember
"I GOTS NUTTIN BUT LUVS FOR YA HAWNY" thats a rap song btw
Sorry - get your Mummy to translate that into English, if it will go. No speakie Puke.
10% are moderately to less religious?
Yes. They don't go to church, but they can be heard yelling "Oh God, Oh God, Oh God!!!" in their bedroom.
