Saw a bumper sticker today that read, "I say "Christmas" If you don't like it then KISS-M-AS"

I never got why people get offended by Happy Holidays. How is that offensive?

I'm not offended but it's strange to me . . . Happy Holidays sounds just too generalized. I only celebrate Christmas so I don't relaly think about the others.

Now thats the spirit. Telling people to kiss my ass:roll:

I don't get offended by Happy Holidays. I don't get offended by Merry Christmas, either.

If I take offense to anything, it is those who would demand one or the other.

With family yeah, but with friends, co-workers, etc I think Happy Holidays is more appropriate, there is more than one holiday this time of year, and that is just the appropriate thing to say.

It just seems to me that the people who get offended by Happy Holidays are just immature, and don't like the idea of other people celebrating differing holidays.

Happy Holidays = Happy Thanksgiving, happy christman, happy new year. It covers it all.

It's not saying "Happy Holidays" that's offensive. What's offensive is the freedom from religion some people want by trying to suppress others from saying "Merry Christmas" or "Christmas tree".

Yeah - I agree on the offense part.

I just don't ever think about Holidays - most people I know are Christmasers. . . my extended Jewish family celebrates Hanukkah but it seems strange for me to wish them a happy something - is that what they say to each other? "Happy Hanukkah"

Maybe it's the term Happy that makes it seem strange. Linguistically speaking - it's just an odd pairing for me. I associate Holiday with a vacation foremost - not a special event.

Hmm

I'll say "Happy Thanksgiving" sometimes like - right at the celebration of Thanksgiving. And "Merry Christmas" comes out right at the celebration of Christmas. Same thing with Happy New Year.

I just rarely say these things - only when the day is right on everyone does it seem appropriate at all. Otherwise - I'd feel like a nincompoop for months. :D

By recognizing each individually - like most people do - I don't need a generalized term even if it was something other than 'happy' or 'holidays' - it just seems . . . strange . . . to recognize it as a season overall.

maybe I'm a rebellious little **** that way :D

Even as an athiest I see no reason why a holiday should offend anyone.

Merry Christmas All!

Its silly to be offended by others peoples words. I mean truly silly. So...dont be 'offended'.

Now...those that object to the "Merry XMas" or "Happy Holidays" as a substitution for Merry Christmas...well...dont blame others because the Holy day has been subverted into a commercial cornucopia. Blame yourself. If you are upset, then STOP SHOPPING during Christmas. Seriously...just stop. Buy a few inexpensive meaningful gifts during the year that you can exchange if you want to celebrate the symbolism, but stop spending thousands on the commercial "XMas". And if ALL religious type persons did that, instead of going out, spending billions and being butthurt because you dont like that they dont 'respect' your Holy day...then it would be a win win. Lots less religious types out there shopping and getting in the way of the non-religious types, no more commercialized Christmas...how could that possibly be a bad thing? I still envision one year with a united religious organization effort to respect the XMas and to NOT engage in the commercial component.

America has many "holidays" so why do the Nazis of political correctness apply "Happy Holidays" to one or perhaps two if New Years (religious?) is included? Why not abolish all religious days and replace the names with "Happy Not To Be Killed Day"?

Happy holidays includes New Years. It's kind of the short version of "merry christmas and a happy new years" Much easier to say happy holidays.

For me personally, I say Christmas on the two or three days around christmas and holidays for the rest of the time. But imo, if you are the type that gets downright upset over hearing someone say "happy holidays" you should be institutionalized.

I've always said, the religious have done more to ruin Christmas through adding to it's commercialization than the non-religious ever will.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
Happy Holidays, Happy Hanuka, Super Saturnalia, and a wonderful winter solstice celebration for everyone.

and to any Grinch who wants to make an issue out of Christmas, you can smooch my old, wrinkled, well you know.

Fully agree, and it's just as offensive as religious people trying to force others to say "Merry Christmas" when they don't want to.

I say Happy Holidays as per my marching orders in the War on Christmas.

You should have wished that person "Happy Chanukah," and if they don't like it they can eat your pork.
