I stopped reading when it got to Lyell and Darwin looking at fossil records. Which fossils. do you realize that Darwin did most of his reserch between the 1830's and 40's? The study of paleiobiology wasn't even in existence nor was 'fossil recording" more than a gentlemans hobby.
Darwin based most if not all of his findings on what he saw in South America and the Gallapagos(sp?). As well as some of his work on birds back in England. Russell Wallace worked on plants and did some work with animals. I am not familar with this Lyell person
But, Darwin did in fact collect fossils. That' s what created his disturbed thoughts about his theory. He hoped that as time went on intermediates would be found to support his ideas.
Darwin Fossils Released From Hiding | PBS NewsHour
"Sir Charles Lyell, 1st Baronet, Kt FRS (14 November 1797 – 22 February 1875) was a British lawyer and the foremost geologist of his day. He is best known as the author of Principles of Geology, which popularised James Hutton's concepts of uniformitarianism – the idea that the earth was shaped by the same processes still in operation today. Lyell was a close and influential friend of Charles Darwin."
