Do you sometimes wake from a dream that you think of as some sort of "message" you can't quite grasp, and has an animal or more than one animal in it?

I have. Numerous times.

Do you also favor one particular animal over another? Or are drawn to that animal? We all know we like cats or dogs or horses or lizards or birds...but we are also fascinated with animals we cannot keep as "pets"...like whales, or dolphins or elephants or giraffes, zebras, alligators, butterflies, hummingbirds, albatross, etc.

I like to dabble in dream interpretation...and the secret world of animal spirit guides that appear in the subconscious that some may..or may not...recognize as a small miracle of spiritual connection between the human realm and the unknown that many don't understand. Yet.

It's just a subject I am interested in and thought maybe others are as well?

Somebody in my therapy group has dreams about black panthers a lot, we looked it up and it meant a secret, information, or a memory would be revealed to her. The panther is powerful, so the information will be powerful. She's in therapy working on serious stuff too, and I think some of it relates to forgotten memories. She said she finds the panther when she's traveling through a tunnel a light, and she wakes up once she gets to the black panther. She thought it symbolized death.

As for me, I like cats a lot. Their purr makes me relax. Something about it is soothing. I kind of like big cats, because I can't own them... but they are powerful and beautiful. I watch documentaries on them a lot. I usually don't dream about animals unless they are my pets.

Maybe this is a weird question, but what do you think about werewolves, Enola? I watched a paranormal show and they were trying to explain that werewovles often manifest in an energy form. Some people claim they can project these energy forms outward from their own bodies. I don't know what that means, but I have heard of psychic vampires. I have had that explained to me, and once it was explained it made sense why that term is used to describe what it describes.

I have never really delved in to the aspect of people being able to actually "turn" into an animal but some native americans believe in it. I think spiritually...we can all, if taught how to do it, take on the "spirit" of an animal and walk/see/feel/act as that form but it is more like telepathy/possession.
Energy vampires...yes. I have met some of those. They suck you dry and leave you very tired, confused, and some can probably kill you just by taking your life force (not by sucking your blood).

Panther is a very powerful totem. I hope the gal in the therapy group can hang on to Panther. She will need it's strength.

I had a dream a few weeks ago. Usually, I forget them. Some, I remember for years. The one a few weeks ago was about white wolves with blue eyes. Snapping at me but not in anger. It was like they were trying to "catch" me when I fell because I was spinning around in an old mobile home...like it was in a tornado...and when I reached to door to try to get out, there they were. But the wind kept slamming me back in the room and I kept grabbing the sides of the door to get out...and there they were again. Snapping, jumping towards me..blue eyes staring. I never made it to the door. I woke up.

She thought the dream symbolized death because she was in a white tunnel of light and then the black panther at the end. I kind of thought that at first too, but when we looked it up we found it meant something very different. The tunnel represents a journey and the black panther represents powerful secrets or information, something like that.

I have had some crazy dreams in the past, but they didn't involve animals. I still remember some of my dreams too.

I love dreaming about animals. Whenever they appear, I know they are trying to tell me something. I look them up, what their meanings are once they appear, then I have to deduct what they represent in my life and where it fits best to assist me in my journey.

Her experience sounds very interesting. White light, black panther. My initial though was not of death but of a journey and a blockage to continue that aspect of the path. In my head, I saw other paths forking off the tunnel. She must turn, but not until Panther leads her in the right direction. Problem is, she has to confront Panther to learn the secrets she must know in order to turn unto the right path since there are more than just one.

I am deeply interested in dreams and their significance. My mother had two prophetic dreams that she told to others before they came true, so I believe in prophetic dreams. I also had two recurring nightmares in childhood, one after a boy threatened me when I was 10 and another when I was about 15. Much later, when I lived in Japan, I began to have dreams in which Japanese people spoke Japanese that I did not understand but could tell was perfect native speech and I began to speak Japanese better in my dreams than in waking life, so I also began to try to interpret my dreams. But I do not recall ever dreaming about animals.

Meanwhile, I have studied about Japan, which presents some phenomena that may interest you. First, some shamans (usually female, miko or kuchiyose) have animal spirit guides. The fox spirit is a shapeshifter who can appear as a beautiful young woman or old man. It can also possess a person or become attached to a whole family and become a spiritual possession hereditary through the female line. It gives a person power, though apparently mostly negative, but it cannot be got rid of and becomes a reason for ostracism. The fox spirit can invade dreams and, as an animal spirit guide, could appear in guiding dreams. For some introductions, see:
Kitsune in Wikipedia (a fairly good intro), Shamanism in Japan by William P Fairchild, section on Animal spirits beginning on p54, The Catalpa Bow by Carmen Blacker, section on Witch animals, and "Fox possession in Japan" (J of American Folklore 13, 50 [1900]: 222-5).

You would probably also love Chinese literature on animal dreams.

I don't dream of animals, but of large old houses and babies. I often dream of rushing water and tornadoes too. I guess my animal spirit is evading me. ;)

Interesting question.

I'm trying to remember the last time I dreamt of an animal ..

.. I've dreamt of women acting like animals .. in so many ways .. ..

.. But I'm guessing since I've eaten so many of them .. animals .. that they don't go anywhere near my dreams.

That's kind of strange, though, as I really love cats and dogs .. as pets .. ..

I think I'll dwell on it a bit today, and maybe that will cause an animal to appear in my dreams tonight -- God knows I could really use the rest.

Maybe there are animals but you just don't remember once you wake up?

Mebbe so, but I'm usually really good at remembering dreams. I keep a journal of the really cool and interesting ones.:) I love dream time.

I have been busy making descriptions on animal spirit guides for my weheartit page. Meanwhile, i also found some very interesting youtube descriptions which I will share with you here, for those who are so inclined to learn more on this subject:

This one I found that is quite interesting for the gal that had the dream of the black panther. Maybe you can pass it on to her, Shewolf?
