Is a Mormon a Christian?

I don't see why they shouldn't be considered Christian since they follow the teachings of Christ as they know it right? Isn't that what everyone else does? Other denominations may not find much solidarity with the LDS church since there are obviously drastic theological differences especially when it comes to the actual nature of God and Christ but they aren't the first and only christian church to not conform to Pauline Christianity.

I don't know why the label would bother non-Christians.

I think what bothers Christians is that the Mormon church or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, only started saying it to appear more main stream after many years of doing the exact opposite. As for non-Christians? I don't know why they would care one way or the other to be honest.

I have seen a couple of threads about Mitt Romney, but rather than the politics. Let's get to the Religious facts.

I stated a Mormon is a Christian because they state Christ died for their sins and he is their salvation. One of my Catholic friends flipped out on me and said no way are they Christian.

The argument being that they don't believe in the same flavor of Christianity, so they can't be Christian because it's not his Christ. I stated that sounds like splitting hairs to me.
I don't disagree that the Mormon version of Christianity is way out there compared to traditional factors. The question to me remains why is a Mormon not a Christian?
1. They don't believe in the Holy trinity it's God, Christ, and the Holy Ghost as separate individuals - This is again just simple disagreement on the same belief.
2. Adding a book like the Mormons and they have several. If this is the justification than how can a Catholic be Christian because they have extra books in their own version on the bible not accepted by many other Christians.
3. This one is perhaps a valid discussion. Mormons think that God was once human and they have the opportunity to become a God themselves. Is that enough and why?
4. The best question is why people are so worried about accepting Mormons as Christians. Why would this matter to other Christians or non-Christian groups?

They don't understand the word "Jesus" to mean the same thing, they hold that he isn't God. For that matter, they don't understand God in the same way as Christians at all, they hold he is substantially the same as us, just more advanced. Thus they are not Christians and doubtfully worship the same deity.

Damn you bumped an old thread.

They are not only Christian but they are the restoration of the New Testament church.

Just as all the popular religious sects in Jesus' day claimed they were the true followers of Abraham and Jesus was a fake, quoting scripture, pretty much all the Christian sects are going to claim the same thing about Christ's true church. It is why you can get the craziest, snake handling, talking in babbling tongues sect and they are considered Christian by the "Christian" world, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is not. When all the religious leaders condemn one religion, and they kill their founding prophet, that is the one religion smart people should pray about.
