The lawyer of an Iranian women's rights activist says his client was convicted on security-related charges and sentenced to five years in prison.

Mohammad Sharif described the verdict for his client, 22-year-old women's rights activist Hana Abdi, as harsh. He told The Associated Press Saturday that her prison was also very remote.

Abdi has been in detention since November for advocating for greater freedoms for Iran's women. In Iran women need a male guardian's permission to work or travel. However they can drive, vote and run for office.

In the past three years, Iranian authorities have detained many women who fought for equal rights with men on similar charges.

Nevertheless, if Christians tried to enforce these provisions, that would be a human rights violation, even though it's in the Bible and many consider the United States to be "a Christian Nation".
In a civilized country, the religious must be deterred- by law, if necessary- from enforcing their beliefs upon the general populace.
Here in the US, we've accommodated that restriction by pretending that half the stuff in the Bible isn't really there, or that God was just joking when he said it, or that it doesn't really apply to us anymore, although maybe it still applies to Jews or something.

Perhaps Islamics in Iran will have to reach some similar state of compromise as pertains to the Qur'an and human rights.

Those are the OLD LAWS DAMMIT!! Those laws were meant for the ancient israelites at the time to prepare the way for JEsus Christ.. Christians go by the NEW LAWS. Why the hell do you think we have christianity in the first place? Because of the old laws? no, because of the New Laws. You don't have to believe in them but thats fact. I have even recited several scriptures for it. The Old laws have been abolished, you can see that in the book of Hebrews.

C'mon athiests, your intellectuals, get it right for once. You want to attribute that law to some one? attribute it to the ancient israelites. We have the new laws for a purpose. Just like Germany is not Nazi today just because it was Nazi 40 years ago.

You just copied the quotation marks, but you still don't understand thier function ? What quotation marks do, is indicate when one is typing words attributed to another person. Did you perhaps mean to type "stop correcting" above ? I think I'll take "corrections" from you with a grain of salt. Further, I already addressed your point, that was bhkad, quoting an idiot who can't stay on topic, Rosie O'donnel. It may be too bad that idiot Rosie does not frequent the site, as she would find many idiots just like herself.
