Anything can become militant. Any cause can become confrontational and it's followers aggressive. To relate it in only the shallow definition of the way the word 'Militant' is nowaday's accepted, i.e. simply relating it to what's in the news now with Islam/Religion is disingenuous.

To degrade the posters premise on that is not at all different than the 'War on Christmas' attitude that is regularly degraded and pointed out as irrational. It's simply defending your ideology. To say othewise is hypocriticial.

Anything can become militant? So can non-violence become militant? You're grabbing at that which does not exists bud.
There is now followers of atheism - atheism is a non-belief in so as to think for yourself rather than being told and brainwashed to never question religious dogma.

War on Christmas? no such thing exists - it's the desperation of certain TV hosts to create something more than it actually is for the sake of ratings.

If I thought atheisms only aim was to make sure that religion and government remained seperate entities, I wouldn't have a problem with atheism at all. But its clear that this is not simply the case. The derision, condesencion and arrogance they display towards those that do not think as they do is quite sickeneing to watch, IMO. I'm not saying religious people aren't capable of this attitude, they certainley are. But lets not pretend that atheists are actually better.

That's secularism, atheism has no aim whatsoever.

Excuse me? I must be in another world here, what's the title of the thread? Militant atheism, it seems perfectly clear here of some individuals attempting to make a false claim without any justification and now when called on it becomes "derision, condescending and arrogance"?

I was speaking in regards to the general attitudes of atheists towards people of faith. I already qualified that people of faith are subject to these same attitudes towards non believers as well, which is what this OP seems to be. The response to condesencion and derision from one side always seems to be met with condesencion and derision from the other side. Its fighting fire with fire. One side trying to impose its will on the other.
