About presenting your political view in public? Are the youtube vids making the violence seem a lot worse and more wide spread than it actually is?

No. Yes.

I live in Southern California. I wouldn't dream of speaking politics unless I know exactly who I'm talking to. I would also never place a bumper sticker on my car, wear a hat, or place a sign in my yard.

There is absolutely nothing to gain, and I don't believe for a moment any sign would cause someone to say, Gee, I think I will vote for that candidate.

We are in an age of "destroy" those who don't follow orders.

I am anxious to reverse that course, and return the favor.

I don't have many I can talk to about politics where I live. Most people are either disgusted by it, annoyed by it, or just don't care.

If asked I will. I am more issue focused so I can generally speak of my views without the need to promote or criticize a particular party or philosophy, which is a good way to avoid arguments. Many of the issues people do like to argue about don't matter to me one way or the other really.

I don't push such discussions but I certainly don't shy away from them and actually enjoy political discussions with certain people from the other side of the aisle.

I'm not nervous about presenting (my) political view in public, just bored to tears with it. On account of others presenting their own, boring me to tears first of all and thus assuming that it works the same the other way round.

That would cover the vast majority of people I get to meet that I won't get to sway (and why should I want to and why should they have to put up with it?).

Youtube is for music as far as I'm concerned. Anything else offered there is a pile of crap to me.

Everyone should be nervous about airing political views in public but, not because of "youtube vids".

The reason folks should be a bit nervous is because everything one does or says is or can be recorded (not just in public but - emails, phone calls .. even private conversations).

When the Gov't went after people a few decades ago during the McCarthy era - they went after peoples thoughts. Fortunately for many the Gov't did not have todays technology.

The next time the Gov't goes after peoples thoughts ... they will have the advantage of todays technology. They will be able to bring up an email someone wrote or a private conversation recorded 20 30 40 years ago.

This is not a matter of "if" but when.

Because of the kind of work I do, I need to keep my political thoughts private.

As for violence...I'm not sure what you are even talking about. So if there's stuff on YouTube making you think there is widespread political violence then yeah it's probably overblown.

Cat videos. Sweet, sweet, cat videos.

I talk politics in public all the time. I'm proud of what I think.

Cats always help.

My biggest problems politically are family that don't like cats.

People who don't like cats are severely insecure.

I like dogs just fine but I don't need another dumb animal to flesh out my self-esteem.

I sure do. Wouldn't feel like half the genius I am without this face staring at me come 6 am.
